Reporting to the Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Associate Dean is responsible for providing academic leadership to the faculty, staff and students in the School of Humanities and Creativity. This includes the planning and administration of resources; the monitoring and development of academic quality; and the review and development of curriculum and programs, applied research initiatives, industry/community partnerships, and funding opportunities. The School of Humanities and Creativity includes the Honours Bachelor of Creative Writing & Publishing, the Graduate Certificate in Applied Creativity and Innovation, the Board Undergraduate Certificates, short-form continuing education and professional development offerings in Faculty areas, as well as the planning and delivery of cross-college Degree Breadth electives.
The Associate Dean plays a key role in attracting and developing talent, creating an engaging work environment, and managing performance to ensure faculty commitment to quality teaching, professional development and currency in their discipline. They contribute to building a strong identity, positive reputation and a clear sense of mandate and direction educational objectives that are current with industry and community (including through Program Advisory Committees and Applied Research projects), effective, relevant to student needs and consistent with the Faculty and College strategic direction.



Providing academic leadership in the visioning, development, delivery, and ongoing review/modification of existing programs and initiatives, to ensure quality and reflection of emerging student needs; Strategic planning for School/Department and actively participating in the development, implementation and leadership of the Faculty strategic plan as part of the academic planning process of the College;
Liaising on local, provincial, national and international levels to research and develop appropriate partnerships with the community, governments, educational institutions, business and industry;
Maintaining a high level of performance through effective recruiting, selecting, developing, motivating, evaluating and training of a faculty and staff team; establishing workload assignments and conducting performance evaluations;
Managing fiscal and physical resources for programs, including by identifying and pursuing appropriate revenue-generating opportunities and maximizing annual budgets through planning that economizes while ensuring academic integrity;
Fostering an effective, participatory, and accountable environment for faculty, staff and students in the teaching and learning process and in the academic community;
You have the skills and knowledge to work with an increasingly diverse student and staff population as well as a proven commitment to anti-oppression, equity, and inclusion.
You have superlative presentation and influencing skills with an ability to influence at all levels and obtain buy-in when diverse needs and competing priorities exist and can clearly communicate complex information verbally and in writing across multiple levels.
You have sound understanding of project management principles and tools and have the ability to multi-task , prioritize , balance, and manage multiple complex and competing demands.
You exercise sound judgement and your sharp problem solving and conflict resolution skills, along with your ability to invite new ways of thinking, allow you to solve challenges in a creative way to help advance organizational goals.
PhD preferred
~7 years of experience working in a post-secondary educational environment with significant management/leadership experience or progressive work experience in field of Humanities (or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience)
~ Solid professional/industry connections with an understanding of emerging trends & issues
~ Demonstrated commitment to academic excellence and student success
