The Director of Finance directs the financial affairs of the organization and prepares financial analyses of operations, including monthly and year end financial reports. Responsible for the company's financial plans and policies, its accounting practices, the conduct of its day-to-day relationships with lending institutions, the maintenance of its fiscal records, and the preparation of supporting schedules to facilitate the year-end financial statements. This position generally requires at least 10 years of experience in accounting or finance, and public accounting experience is highly valued. A Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Accounting is required, and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) or a designation such as the Canadian Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) is preferred.DESCRIPTION FREQUENCYPrimary Job Responsibilities:Maintain the company's system of accounts and oversee daily operations of the accounting department.Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget, financial reporting, and financial forecasts.Implement and maintain appropriate procedures, controls and processes for the inventory count, finance, and accounting functions.Responsible for compliance with all federal, provincial, and local corporate, payroll, and other applicable taxesResponsible for the annual financial audit / review, by preparing working papers, account reconciliations and other required documentation / analyses.Support senior management team by assisting in evaluation of various projects and initiatives and ensuring that decisions are based on sound financial justification.Hiring, training, and retaining finance staffOverseeing insurance and risk managementAssisting with business funding decisionsSpecial Projects:Assists and leads special projects / initiatives under the direction of the company’s Vice PresidentSKILLS / KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTSBA / BS Degree in Accounting, Finance or related majorCA / CMA / CGA certification required.5+ years of experience in accounting / financial managementHR experience & working in a manufacturing environment is an asset Excellent computer skills, advanced Excel a must, Great Plains experience a plusExcellent communication skills both verbal and written. Strong attention to detailSound business judgment and ability to prioritize and multitask.
