JOB SUMMARY

The Decommissioning Engineer will be part of the Douglas Point Decommissioning Projects team throughout the lifecycle of Douglas Point Waste Facility decommissioning. The Decommissioning Engineer will support Project Leaders in the execution of projects at Douglas Point including scopes of work preparation, review of drawings, review of work control packages, providing oversight of staff and contractors executing decommissioning work, and providing technical expertise during implementation of field work activities at the site.

What Will You Be Doing

The general accountabilities associated with this position are as follows :

  • Provides technical support during the design, work package preparation, and decommissioning field work required to decommission the Douglas Point Waste Facility.
  • Performs timely reviews of submitted drawings and documentation during all phases of the project.
  • Performs engineering surveillance of contractor activities, both at Douglas Point and contractor facilities.
  • Provides CNL and HQ sponsoring of contractor personnel accessing the site.
  • Performs oversight of contractors and ensures the safe execution of field work activities.
  • Responds to queries relating to logistics, CNL compliance programs, and CNL procedures.
  • Provides technical assistance to the Project Manager and other project team members.
  • Prepares, reviews, and issues, as appropriate, technical notes, reports, memos, plans, or other documents.
  • Assists in developing project schedules, budgets, and work packages.
  • Interfaces with stakeholders and participants to ensure technical work is coordinated to meet requirements.
  • Ensures deliverables meet requirements and are completed on time and within budget.
  • Travel as required to external supplier facilities for meetings, surveillance, or other activities.
  • Is available for work during off hours as required to meet project requirements.

What We Are Looking For

Knowledge and Skills and Abilities :

  • A Bachelors (Honours) Degree in Engineering from a university of recognized standing.
  • A membership in an engineering professional organization authorized by statute to establish qualification for membership in that organization is considered an asset.
  • Five (5) or more years’ experience within the nuclear industry, ideally in work associated with the waste management, decommissioning, and/or processing systems.
  • Knowledge of engineering codes and standards used in design and construction.
  • Strong knowledge of radiation protection principles and practices is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of CNL’s Compliance programs, Engineering Change Control process, Project Management process, Quality Assurance process, and Work Control processes.
  • The ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team including contractors and stakeholders.
  • Experience in dealing with engineering and construction contractors.
  • Good interpersonal and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, with conflicting priorities and regulatory requirements.
  • The ability to gather, analyze, and assemble a variety of technical information.
  • Strong technical writing skills.
  • Excellent computer literacy including spreadsheets, databases, design software, and word processing software.
  • The ability and willingness to work independently as required, taking responsibility for selected aspects of the project.
  • Highly disciplined, punctual, honest, and exhibit a good work ethic.
  • Good record-keeping and organizational skills, and be able to manage multiple activities and responsibilities.
  • Willing to travel and work overtime when required to provide technical support.

CNL recognizes and acknowledges that the Douglas Point site is located within the Traditional Territory of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation (SON), and the harvesting areas of the Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) and the Historic Saugeen Métis (HSM) .

CNL’s Douglass Point Prototype Reactor (which has now entered the dismantling phase of decommissioning ETA 2070) is located on the Bruce Power site in Bruce County on the east shore of Lake Huron in the Province of Ontario, near the municipality of Kincardine approx. 2.5 hours north and west of Toronto.
