Position Summary:Reporting directly to the Vice President, Manufacturing – North Region, the Plant Manager functions as an integral member of the site Leadership Team and shares the responsibility for establishing and maintaining a professional working environment that is committed to safety, customer service, quality, teamwork, and continuous improvement.Responsible for the overall effective operation of the Edmonton Plant, the Plant Manager is directly accountable for ensuring that products meet or exceed the standards set for quality, cost, productivity, customer service, and provide oversight of the internal and external handling, storage, and movement of all goods, in a safe, effective, and efficient manner.Coverage in case of Absence: In the absence of a Plant Manager, the Vice President, Manufacturing – North will cover his/her designated post.Major Duties and Responsibilities:Provides functional direction & leadership to all operating departments in the plant through the setting and management of appropriate performance objectives. Objectives include, but are not limited to the following:Food & Employee Safety, Product & packaging quality, product & packaging efficiencies, customer order fulfillment, shop floor logistics (production sequence, utilization of equipment, staffing levels, product costs, product run times, line efficiencies, facilitate regular meetings and updates to ensure the accurate and timely flow of information as required by R&D, QC, and Engineering Departments.Ensure compliance with all applicable legislation and codes in all areas of plant including WCB, HACCP, WHMIS, & Workplace H&S.Assist and support the R&D, QC, Maintenance/Engineering and Production Department leaders to troubleshoot and resolve problems in their area as required.Provides operational support and leadership in the commercialization of new products and onboarding of new business.Works collaboratively with various support teams and functions with the overall aim of meeting customer expectations and business objectives.Works to develop and enhance positive employee relations with the aim of increasing overall employee engagement.Ensures effective operation of the plant on a 2 shift, 5 days per week schedule.Negotiate and maintain supplier contracts with vendors and contractors including rates, service level specifications, contracted deliverables and conflict resolutions protocols.Education and Experience:3+ years management experience with developing talent and team building skills in a manufacturing environment is required.Some Post secondary education or professional development courses or equivalent experience is required.Ability to travel up to 5% in North America is required.Previous experience in a similar industry or organization is required.Experience in the food and beverage manufacturing preferred.High level of business savvy and ability to deal with both daily facility problems and with highest levels of management (internal and external).Good working knowledge of product formulas, costing, and experience in bringing R&D endeavors to fruition.Ability to lead and manage change at all levels in the plant, skilled at handling employee relations and maintain good employee morale.Prior experience working in a union avoidance environment preferred.A proven track record of effective development, communication and implementation of complex strategies in for products, processes, people and policy.Knowledge and Skills:A demonstrated ability to effectively solve both technical & logistic problems.Ability to make and sustain excellent interpersonal relationships at all levels of the organization and across cultural and ethnic diversity.Strong written, verbal and computer skillsDemonstrated ability to meet or exceed the physical requirements of the facility’s working conditions.Why Join Us:Ventura Foods innovates and manufactures food solutions for foodservice and retail businesses.
