Our client is looking to hire a Senior Manager, Talent Advisory Legal to join their National Team. You will be a Lawyer, reporting to the National Directors, Talent Advisory – Legal, who will be responsible for managing the operational aspects of the Firm’s development programs aimed specifically at Associates in their first two years of practice (approx. 100+ lawyers nationally).


The role includes program supervision, data analytics, reporting, as well as coordinating with stakeholders to ensure the integrity of the Firm’s development programs. The incumbent will work closely with the Directors, Talent Advisory – Legal, empowering the Directors to implement the programs as well as with the Firm’s Practice Management Team.


Success is delivering proactive value-added advice, guidance and service to the Talent Advisory – Legal team and Practice Group management teams to ensure that the firm is optimizing the contribution of its most valuable assets - its people - and that the Firm is able to attract, retain and develop top talent within the legal services sector in Canada.


Summary of Responsibilities:


Program Management

  • Making recommendations on the delivery of the programs, including in respect of individual associates
  • Developing and rolling out standard communications
  • Tracking of key milestones for Associates in the programs
  • Initiating steps/procedures associated with the program milestones Management of program intakes and exits
  • Establishing and tracking meeting cadence of Directors and with junior associates
  • Monitoring and updating data in regard to program milestones and progress
  • Delivery on onboarding presentations


Reporting (analyzing data, providing written commentary, and issuing reports)

  • Preparation of monthly and quarterly reports to Directors and other stakeholders tracking the progress of junior associates nationally against established baselines, in terms of skills development and work distribution
  • Working with Data analytics team to create or enhance program reporting
  • Issuance of quarterly surveys to junior associates about program satisfaction, review of survey responses and issuance of survey response summaries
  • Provide analysis of data to support talent optimization through work allocation and load balancing efforts.
  • Support Regional Directors of Talent Advisory and other management members in ensuring that high performers remain engaged and underperforming professionals are managed appropriately.


Data Integrity

  • Review and coordination of Talent Data specific to the program in Firm systems (active start dates, program exit and transfer)
  • Review of accuracy of monthly reports to associates


Drafting of Program Materials

  • Ad hoc policy review and revision (in collaboration with the National Directors, Talent Advisory – Legal)
  • Preparation and distribution of onboarding packages, manuals, guides and pamphlets
  • Drafting and coordination of program exit announcement emails
  • Communications with associate mentors
  • Coordination of intranet program pages (design and upload of materials)


Communication and Integration with the Talent team

  • Meet regularly with national and regional Talent team members to ensure consistency and program integrity across the regions
  • When required, meet with business services members from other teams, junior associates and partners to assist in driving any necessary interventions and actions
  • Facilitate decision-making and resolution of issues across various teams
  • Collaborate on other national Talent projects and provide support to the national Talent team as needed on Talent programs including onboarding, engagement and retention initiatives


Core Experience & Skills:


  • 5+ years of experience managing programs in a professional services setting (legal background preferred)
  • Ideal candidates will have a J.D. degree and former practicing lawyer experience.
  • Strong technical skills: ability to establish key metrics, identify and monitor trends, communicate data clearly and effectively
  • Strong proficiency in Excel, Word, and Power Point
  • Ability to work independently
  • Have a strong sense of team and ability to collaborate with others
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams
  • Adaptable to evolving expectations
  • Strong level of French / bilingual candidate is preferred
  • Highly developed organizational, problem solving and time-management skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with people at all levels
  • Strong operational management focus, ensuring high quality work product, on time and in-budget delivery
  • Strong customer service orientation
