My ecommerce email division is growing, new channel partnerships are opening up, the pipeline is getting full, and I need some help


If you've never written an email for a DTC brand before, then this opportunity is not for you.


If you have, however, and can crank them out fast, without compromising on quality, then you might have what it takes to relieve me of some responsibilities, so I can do what every agency owner wants to do: work ON the business instead of IN it.


Here, in my mind, are the attributes of my ideal candidate:


  • Writing is not your hobby or your 'job'; it is your passion, your purpose, and your ticket to prosperity. For that reason, you hold yourself to the highest possible standard, so I don't have to worry that you're giving it your all.
  • You think for yourself; you're curious; you ask questions; and you're committed to a lifetime of learning and self-improvement. If you'd rather be an order-taker, McDonalds is always hiring.
  • You have a keen sense for strategy and marketing as a whole; email, especially in 2024, does not operate in a vacuum, and it's imperative that you understand, at all times, the broader context of email's position in the digital funnel (or is it a circle now? An hourglass? I'm not sure.).
  • You know how to SELL. If you're a copywriter that can't sell, then you're not a copywriter.
  • You've heard of and studied at least two (preferably all) of these figures: Frank Kern, Gary Halbert, Eugene Schwartz, David Ogilvy, Claude Hopkins.
  • You are continuously trying to outdo yourself, so you can be better than you were yesterday.
  • You don't procrastinate, and you believe that if it's not done early, it's late.
  • You know that everything good in life is on the other side of your ego.


Here, in my mind, are the skills you possess (as, for the time being, you'll have to wear more than one hat):


  • Fluency in the written word; grammatical errors may be cute in some circles, but not in mine.
  • The ability to grab and retain attention; think subject lines, headlines, body copy, and calls-to-action.
  • Fluency in Klaviyo: that is, you know the medium of your writing as well as you know the writing itself. You'll know how to segment, how to architect flows to bring your words to life, how to measure your performance, how to identify opportunities for improvement, and how to press a variety of other buttons important to your cause.
  • You can create and coordinate a marketing calendar, understanding, too, that not every client is going to make this easy for you, and some may be so backward in their operations that you can't make a calendar at all, and will have to build as you fly.
  • You're able, if necessary, to quantify and translate the impact of your work to clients, when they ask for proof that we're earning their business.
  • You're no stranger to research; y'know, because it's pretty important.
  • You work well with others.


Here, in my mind, are the qualifications you bring to the table:


  • Minimum 2 years experience in copywriting, generally. Think ads, sales letters, landing pages, emails, and anything else with a CONVERSION focus.
  • Minimum 1 year focus in email copywriting and email strategy, specifically for DTC brands.
  • Minimum 1 year Agency experience ('cause things can get a bit frenetic at times).


If you DO NOT possess these qualifications, but know in your heart that you're the next GOAT, then you can still apply; I will take you seriously if you can command my interest.


If you do possess these qualifications, however, you will have a better shot at getting an application in front of me.

  • 15-20 hours per week to start, with an expected ramp-up to full allocation in the not so distant future.
  • Pay commensurate with ABILITY, not experience.
  • A lot less meetings than you may be accustomed to.
  • Direct access to me, whenever you need it, for training, instruction, ideation, and support.
  • An excellent designer on staff with whom you'll work closely.
  • Great clients across a range of industries, so you can flex your creativity while learning new things at the same time.
