Can-Tech Services is looking for an Assistant Materials Manager for one of our reputable Automotive Manufacturing clients in the East Gwillimbury area.


Our client is a premier supplier of advanced suspension products and welded assemblies to the global automotive industry. Equipped with the latest technology in metal stamping (up to 2500 tonne), state-of-the-art robotic welding cells, and automated assembly lines, the 240,000 square foot facility is staffed by expert personnel to manufacture front and rear suspension control arms, links, stabilizer bars and various high value-add assemblies.


The position is a Full-Time and Permanent Position directly with the client.

We are looking for an Assistant Materials Manager that will be responsible to increase organization profitability through shipping to established customer and company standards while ensuring all incoming and outgoing purchase orders are received by the established company. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required. Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct supervision for all shipping and receiving personnel in the plant and Warehouse.
  • Ensure direct receiving of materials by the established company and customer standards.
  • Provide guidance, problem solving, and training for shippers, receivers, and lead hands.
  • Implement the Health and Safety Act and Highway Traffic Regulations for transportation. Train department members accordingly.
  • Ensure all received material is accurately labeled and tagged (i.e. bar coding inventory system).
  • Direct the receiving functions, material movement, and personnel on a daily basis in the plant and in the warehouse.
  • Ensure orderly flow of materials to all assembly areas.
  • Monitor and organize freight activities by contracted carriers.
  • Plan and organize the receiving and placement of finished goods, returnable containers, and outside processing materials within the plant and warehouse.
  • Responsible for service parts inventory control, housekeeping and organization, and control of storage trailers within the warehouse.
  • Responsible for establishing window time control and a method to measure attainment.
  • Review and authorize DMN reports for defective parts, internal and customers return.
  • Follow up for closure of all DMN’s.
  • Actively participate in team meetings and monthly employee meetings.
  • Participate in all physical inventory activities.
  • Ensure scanning is utilized in shipping and receiving.
  • Provide direct supervision to the shipping/receiving department members.
  • Plan material movements between the plant and the warehouse.
  • Halt production or shipping process and follow the non-conforming procedure in the event of a nonconformance.
  • Organize all plant storage for proper FIFO and quarantine (parts & containers).
  • Ensure proper tracking of customer returnable containers.
  • Monitor manpower requirements for Shipping and Material handling (make adjustments as necessary).
  • Perform performance reviews for shipping supervisor and lead-hand.
  • Monitor Customer delivery performance and complete all violation disputes
  • Track customer delivery performance and Internal Delivery Performance in appropriate databases.
  • Track all instances of customer/vendor premium freight in the internal delivery performance database.


Education and Experience:

  • Completion of a college diploma in a related field (i.e. business management).
  • 3 years of experience in a shipping and receiving supervisory role in the automotive industry.
  • Possess a valid tow motor license.
  • Proficient computer skills in the areas of DDL, MRP systems and Windows.
  • Self motivated, able to work under limited supervision.
  • Comprehensive understanding of lot traceability.
  • Ability to work in a very busy environment.
  • Must have material handling experience (i.e. pick and pack orders).
