About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer - Projects to be a part of a new plant start-up based in Port Colborne, Ontario. The incumbent will be a self-starter that takes ownership of assigned projects, responsible for the entire project life cycle from scope determination through timely project closure on assigned projects. This role works in cooperation with other engineers to assist with project details as appropriate.
Reporting Relationships
This position directly reports to the Project Director and does not supervise others.

Key Accountabilities
- Project management of capital and expense projects from concept to project closure
- Designs and manages install of new and modifications to existing equipment with input from production, maintenance, safety, R&D, and quality groups
- Create 3D CAD models and 2D drawings for mechanical designs
- Specification and install management of new equipment for capital and expense projects
- Project material quotation, requisition, tracking, and staging
- Project forecasting, budgeting, invoice management, and controlling costs within project budget
- Supervise and support installation contractors for project work
- Supervise and support start-up and internal checkout installation for project work
- Maintain plant layout master file in AutoCAD
- Evaluates performance of plant systems and makes recommendations for improvements and cost savings
- Knowledge and appreciation of safe work practices and environments; maintains a high level of safety among all employees throughout the project process
- Uses technical knowledge and awareness of details to recognize when technical problems are developing in the various disciplines and initiate appropriate corrective actions
Qualifications
Education Background:
- BS in Engineering Required. Mechanical preferred.
Knowledge & Experience:
- 6+ years of experience in manufacturing facilities or industrial environments with a focus on mechanical projects, maintenance engineering, and design of machines required.
- Experience with capital and expense project management is required.
- Experience with plastic extrusion equipment, web handling equipment, process instrumentation, and utilities that support the process equipment is preferred.
- Experience must have strong emphasis on execution of multiple projects.
- Must be proficient in the use of AutoCAD.
- Must be proficient in the use of AutoDesk Inventor (proficiency in Solidworks is acceptable but must transition to Inventor).
- Must be proficient in MS Office products and technical writing.
- Must be proficient in mechanical system design for a balance of reliability, cost, and effectiveness

Travel:
- Must be able and willing to travel up to 15% domestically and internationally for training and visiting other company locations.
Schedule:
Must be able and willing to work a flexible schedule for urgent matters and to attend in-person meetings and conference calls outside of normal business hours. The incumbent can flex working hours to accommodate.
Working Environment
This position will be based in a temporary structure on or near a construction site until the permanent office is built in 2026. The final work environment will be at a 24/7 manufacturing operation. This position is in support of manufacturing and requires working in a production environment around chemicals. The manufacturing facility will be a state of the art in terms of automation and being temperature and humidity controlled. This will be a clean and comfortable environment due to the nature of the products being produced.
Work will require standing and walking for up to 80% of the time. You may be required to lift up to 35 pounds and/or apply force necessary to push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
This position has been identified as safety sensitive and involves working in close proximity to operating heavy and complex production equipment, chemical processes, and moving mechanical parts in a construction and manufacturing environment.

Port Colborne, Ontario is a charming harbour town situated in the Niagara Region on the coast of Lake Erie. The Niagara Region is made up of 12 municipalities and has a population of approximately 478,000. It is an international trade hub with industries ranging from agriculture, construction, manufacturing, technology, tourism, transportation and warehousing. There are two regional airports, easy access to four international airports, railway, and other public transportation. It is home to Brock University, Niagara College Canada, McMaster University, as well as public and private schools that offer a selection of concentrations. The base compensation range for this role starts at $103,000. Base Compensation is influenced by many factors including, but not limited to: time in the role, previous experience, skills, knowledge, performance, work requirements, internal equity, and business / economic conditions.
