Overview: The Estimator prepares accurate and detailed cost estimates for commercial construction projects. This role involves analyzing project design documents, specifications, site conditions, historical data, and market rates to determine material, labor, and equipment costs. Working closely with the project design team, project managers, suppliers, Trade Partners, and Pretium's executive leadership to gather and analyze pricing data, assess risks, and develop competitive bid strategies and submissions. The role is predominately in the pre-construction phase, but from time to time may work on pricing of a large Change Order pricing for a project that is in the execution phase. The Estimator plays a crucial role in ensuring projects are financially viable, competitively priced, and aligned with company objectives.

Key Responsibilities include but not limited to:

Pre-Construction – Tenders, Class D, Proposal Budget, Design-Build

·       Assist in pre-construction activities, including RFP response content as it relates to the budget and costing sections.

·       Collaborate with the proposal team including executive leadership, director of pre-construction, Consultants, and Trade Partners on project scope and planning.

·       Support design-build pursuits and pre-construction phases through budgeting in coordination with stakeholders.

·       Identify value engineering opportunities to optimize costs and scheduling efficiencies.

·       Identify issues in design documents, constructability, and tender/RFP documents. Craft and issue RFI's for clarification and risk analysis.

·       Review specifications and drawings and attend pre-bid meetings to determine the scope of work, bid strategy, RFIs, and required contents of estimates.

·       Perform quantity take-offs and assemble cost estimates, including obtaining material supply and Trade Partner/supplier quotations.

·       Assist in closing tenders.

·       Develop pre-bid construction schedule (in conjunction with executive leadership and project management/site superintendent), alternative pricing, and additional requirements to provide complete and compliant tender submission.

·       Participate in construction management or design-build project development activities including set-up of sub-trade tender packages, project planning, cost-saving alternatives, and cost estimate development.

·       Lead the project handover meeting between pre-construction and project execution teams. Collaborates with the team to develop, recommend, and implement the project execution plan after being awarded the project.

·       Evaluate quotes from suppliers and Trade Partners to ensure competitive pricing.

·       Develop and maintain databases with current project and industry cost and Trade Partners with comments regarding costs and performance from estimators/project managers/project coordinators/site superintendents to improve estimating and project execution performance.

·       Implement value engineering and cost reduction systems to ensure the best/lowest possible bids to perform the project to specification standards and maintain project profitability targets.

·       Assist in identifying and mitigating project risks.

Project Execution

·       As required from time to time assist with budgeting and or tendering of large scale project Potential Change Orders in conjunction with the project coordinator and project manager.

Financial & Risk Management

·       Develop, manage, and monitor project budgets/bids to ensure financial performance.

·       Implement value engineering and cost reduction systems to ensure the best/lowest possible bids to perform the project to specification standards and maintain project profitability targets.

·       Craft and submit pre-construction RFIs to clarify scope and reduce Pretium's risk.

·       Assist in identifying and mitigating project risks.

Process Improvement & Compliance

·       Ensure compliance with company policies, legal requirements, industry standards, and codes. Client & Stakeholder Engagement

·       Maintain professional relationships with Trade Partners, suppliers, and Consultants to keep Pretium front of mind and achieve best in industry pricing and design documents.

·       Participate in business development activities and support new project opportunities.

Qualifications, Skills, Education & Experience

·       Bachelor's degree or technical diploma in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred.

·       GSC, PMP, etc. considered an asset.

·       Previous experience as an estimator.

·       Knowledge of construction methods, building codes, and industry regulations.

·       Strong understanding of construction materials, project construction life cycle, and constructability methodologies.

·       Understanding of buildings and civil engineering and construction cost estimating techniques.

·       Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, OneNote, Project), and Blubeam.

·       Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications with proven skills in quantity takeoffs.

·       Strong organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills.

·       Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

·       Self-starter with a self-imposed desire to exceed everyday expectations.

·       High degree of detail orientation and technical accuracy in numerical calculations.

·       Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.

·       Participate in ongoing education and learning activities including courses, conferences, and trade shows.
