Air Canada Maintenance is seeking an enthusiastic highly skilled individual to join our Engineering & Reliability Team. Reporting to the Manager Structures Engineering, the Structures Engineering Specialist enjoys a broad scope of responsibility and works closely with aircraft and component manufacturers, suppliers, vendors, aircraft maintenance engineers and other Transport Canada Delegated Engineers.
The qualified incumbent will be responsible for in-service reliability, airworthiness, configuration management, cost control and process improvement related to aircraft structure and removable structural components. In addition, the candidate may be requested to support the major project group.
This engineering job includes direct support to operations, therefore travel and shift work is required.
Accountabilities (Responsibilities):
  • Manage aircraft and/or component configuration and maintenance specifications
  • Ensure compliance with evolving regulatory and corporate requirements.
  • Resolve root cause of potential safety and reliability issues
  • Develop and certify configuration changes as required.
  • Control operational, maintenance costs and optimize use of corporate resources
  • Support downstream departments in the execution of maintenance activities
  • Expedite the disposition of non-routine findings or events
  • Establish and record pertinent details of non-standard conditions
  • Develop practical, cost-effective repairs and preventative actions
  • Consult with OEM's and Transport Canada as required.
  • Review, develop and obtain financial approvals for the implementation of Mandatory Airworthiness Requirements and Inspections/Instructions for Continuous Airworthiness.
  • Design and develop engineering documentation in compliance with the applicable airworthiness standards with substantiation and justification for modification.
  • Preparation of engineering calculations and / or tests and related reports.
  • Preparation of repairs instructions, processes and procedures as required.
  • Review of aircraft and/or component out of service/reliability and identify root causes of failures and identify areas to improve performance and the passenger experience.
  • Provide technical support to aircraft and components in assigned areas and act as technical interface between the airline and OEM/Vendors
  • Provide engineering support and liaison for other departments including Line Maintenance, Airframe Maintenance, Component Maintenance, Flight Ops and Maintenance Operations Control.
  • Support Safety Investigations of aircraft and components.
  • Maintain knowledge of Transport Canada regulations affecting area of expertise.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering recognized by a Canadian university or provincial engineering association.
  • Practical experience with aircraft maintenance and/or engineering.
  • Analyze and interpret technical documentation
  • Basic stress analysis skills
  • Candidates must be members or qualify for admission to a provincial engineering professional association.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in aviation and aircraft structures.
  • Team player with strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to develop and write clear, concise technical descriptions, instructions, information sheets, reports and engineering drawings.
  • Must be able to work independently, multi-task, work under pressure and accommodate changing priorities.
  • Provide technical and troubleshooting guidance to maintenance personnel.
  • Willingness to be on call and to work flexible hours at and away from home base, as required by day-to-day operational needs.
  • Availability to travel for training, industry meetings, operational/modification support, etc.
  • Familiarity and knowledge with PC-based software.
  • Must be clear of any restrictions which will prevent entry into other countries, and any restrictions that may deny access to OEM data.
  • Knowledge of Regulatory design certification standards for both TCCA and FAA specifications. (asset)
