THE ROLE

The Senior Estimator will prepare accurate cost estimates for paving projects by analyzing plans, conducting site visits, and assessing material and labor needs. They will collaborate with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors to gather pricing information and ensure project requirements are met.

  • 50% Takeoffs, Cost Calculations and Estimation
  • 25% Project Management / Overview of Project Manager
  • 15% Supervision of Invoice and Billings
  • 10% Presentation and Relationship Management


THE TASKS

Takeoffs, Cost Calculations and Estimations

May include, but not be limited to, the following tasks:

  • Review project plans and specifications to prepare accurate material takeoffs.
  • Calculate quantities of materials, labor, and equipment required for paving projects.
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates, including pricing for materials, labor, equipment, and overhead.
  • Analyze and compare subcontractor and supplier quotations to determine the most cost-effective options.
  • Ensure all estimates comply with industry standards, regulations, and company policies in Ontario.
  • Maintain and update cost databases and estimation tools for accuracy and efficiency.


Project Management / Overview of Project Manager

May include, but not be limited to, the following tasks:

  • Collaborate with project managers to align cost estimates with project timelines and objectives.
  • Monitor project budgets and report variances to senior management.
  • Coordinate with procurement and construction teams to ensure resource availability.
  • Participate in project meetings to provide insights on cost management and estimation updates.


Supervision of Invoice and Billings

May include, but not be limited to, the following tasks:

  • Oversee the preparation and issuance of client invoices, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Review billing details to confirm all services, materials, and labor are correctly charged.
  • Coordinate with project teams to verify that invoiced items align with completed work.
  • Address and resolve client inquiries or disputes related to invoices and billings.


Presentation and Relationship Management

May include, but not be limited to, the following tasks:

  • Prepare and present detailed project proposals and cost estimates to clients.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.

  • Successfully bid on a project with some guidance and support from Estimating Manager.
  • Reached out to known and new subcontractors to form a reliable core of vendors to work with during bid processes.

THE SKILL SET

  • Minimum 5 years of estimating experience in the paving, road work or infrastructure adjacent industries.
  • Experience with dedicated bidding software is a plus: HCSS, ProEst, B2W, Sage Estimating
  • Excellent relationship building skills.
