The Opportunity

August just recently launched an internal product called Muni. Muni is a platform designed to enhance municipal customer service experiences. It offers an AI-powered service that allows residents to process requests and payments instantly, access public municipal data, and receive alerts. The platform includes a comprehensive administrative dashboard, a resident mobile app, and a web app. Muni supports various services like reporting violations and looking up municipal programs, and features tools for service requests, notifications, payments, and resident relationship management.


Muni helps residents by offering a streamlined way to interact with their local government, such as processing service requests, payments, and accessing municipal data and alerts through the mobile and web app. For municipalities, Muni provides an administrative platform that enhances customer service and management efficiency, enabling faster responses to resident needs and better engagement through notifications and resident relationship tools. This mutual enhancement fosters a more responsive and interactive municipal environment.


We are looking for an ambitious and energetic part-time Business Development Manager to join our team and help us expand our clientele. The ideal candidate will lead initiatives to generate and engage with towns, municipalities and cities to build new business for the company. This candidate will be focused and have strong communication skills. They should be able to think critically when making plans and have a demonstrated ability to execute a particular strategy.


The Role

Join us as a Part-Time Business Development Manager for Muni, our AI-powered platform designed to enhance municipal services. This pivotal role focuses on lead generation, demonstrating Muni’s capabilities to potential clients through direct outreach and RFP submissions.


Job Description

We are seeking a dynamic Part-Time Business Development Manager to join our sales team. The ideal candidate will focus on generating leads and expanding the reach of our product, Muni. This role involves targeting towns, municipalities, and cities to set up demonstration calls and writing and submitting Request for Proposals (RFPs) that showcase Muni’s capabilities.


Key Responsibilities

  • Build a market position by locating, developing, defining and closing business relationships
  • Identifies trends and ideas by researching the industry, related events, publications and announcements. Become a team expert in a focus area.
  • Locate and propose potential business opportunities by cultivating relationships
  • Take a lead role in developing proposals and presentations for new business materials to create and nurture business opportunities
  • Estimate partner needs and goals
  • Adapt to changing focus/business needs and expertly present to any industry
  • Assist in developing business development strategies


Job Expectations

  • Generate and qualify leads for Muni, targeting municipal governments.
  • Schedule and conduct demonstration calls to present Muni’s features and use cases.
  • Write and submit RFPs, strategically positioning Muni to meet client needs.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of Muni’s features and effectively communicate its value proposition.
  • Independently manage and execute business development activities.
  • Build and maintain a list of potential leads using various tools for email warming and lead generation.
  • Provide weekly reports on progress, including status updates on outreach efforts and lead conversion.


Criteria

  • 3-4 years of business development experience, ideally within technology or municipal sectors.
  • Demonstrated track record in successfully closing deals and exceeding sales targets.
  • Proven experience in engaging and negotiating with government officials is a plus
  • Proficient in the use of business development tools for lead generation, including list building and email discovery.
  • Ability to effectively employ strategic business development methodologies to achieve objectives.
  • Exceptional independent work skills, with a proven ability to effectively manage time and deliverables without supervision.
  • Strong experience in crafting and submitting RFPs, proposals or similar, especially within a technology-driven or municipal context is a must
  • Highly motivated by the dynamics of the sales cycle and proficient in prospecting and opportunity assessment.
  • Maintains a professional demeanor and positively represents our company in all interactions.
  • Excellent presentation skills, capable of conveying complex information clearly and persuasively.
