Nutrition Program Coordinator

Under the supervision and direction of the Director of Nutrition; the Nutrition Program Coordinator is responsible for:

• Development and maintenance of processes and mechanisms for delivery of and reporting on school nutrition programs services;

• Supporting the delivery of program services at all involved school sites across the Division;

• Program planning and development;

• Supporting schools with procurement and food resource management;

• Providing guidance, leadership, and support to program staff;

• and performing other various duties within the scope of the Program.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

• Consults with Administrators, and other identified leaders, to determine needs and capacity to support nutrition related programming at various sites across the Division;

• Establishes and shares processes for communication, documentation, and access to resources provided by the program. Regularly review processes for efficacy;

• Develop strategies to disseminate information about the Program to school sites, agents, students, and families across the Division;

• Collects information from various school sites and agents regarding the provision of existing services and the identification of issues that may impact need for new/revised programming;

• Prepares periodic reports on the activities of the program and submits them to the Director;

• Consult with Director of Nutrition on data collection methods, and analyses data obtained from school sites, and other Divisional sources to identify trends that may impact the program;

• Reviews designated services on an on-going basis to ensure they operate effectively and are on par with current food policy as determined by Division Governance;

• Plans for acquisition of resources as appropriate to the Divisional capacity and needs; liaises with school sites to accommodate nutrition programming resources as needed;

• Coordinates access for in-school programs to resources both internal and external of the Division;

• Consults with schools and families as vested stakeholders to determine priority needs;

• Provides guidance, leadership, and support to in-school food coordinators and other involved staff;

• Participates in and/or leads professional development to provide current information, discuss issues and trends

impacting services delivery, and provide support and assistance to foo coordinators and other program staff;

• Support staff to ensure safe food handling and storage practices are being observed at all sites serving food;

• Communicates unequivocal expectation for use of nutritional programming resources to all staff;

• Maintains an ongoing awareness of current issues related to nutrition programming and service, and conducts

research regarding the provision of nutritional programming in other jurisdictions;

• Develops proposals for the strengthening of existing services and/or creation of new services;

• Operates within a lens of cultural competency to ensure that services are appropriate and are able to engage in a

way that respects and acknowledges individual experiences with food systems;

• Operates within a lens of sustainability, with intentions towards building capacity while serving immediate

Performs other related duties within this classification and other related classifications not exceeding skills and capabilities as required.

Qualifications:

• Post Secondary education in a related field, and/or relevant work experience.

• Experience in project planning and administration in a high-volume or fast-paced environment is required.

• Demonstrated experience supervising staff, including ongoing training and assessment.

• Strong computer skills in Google Docs and Drive, and Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.

• Excellent organizational and multitasking skills with the ability to recognize/meet deadlines in a fast-paced work

environment.

• Exceptional interpersonal and conflict resolution skills in dealing effectively with stakeholders from different

sectors.

• Respect for and knowledge of Indigenous culture, traditions, teachings, and ceremonies with capacity of

integrating same into program activities.

• Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines as well as the ability to work within budgetary parameters.

• Excellent communication and facilitation skills - both verbal and written.

• Knowledge of applicable Provincial and Municipal Governmental regulations as they relate to food handling and

distribution.

• Experience with proposal development, grant writing, and project planning.

• A strong understanding of community development principles, food systems resiliency, and institutional food

systems management is an asset.

• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.
