**Position Overview**:
The incumbent provides leadership in the professional practice of clinical nutrition to practitioners working in the LTC sector in WRHA. This includes developing practice standards and standards of care; monitoring clinical dietetic performance; reviewing and updating policies and procedures.
The incumbent also plans, schedules, coordinates, and supervises the work operations of the clinical nutrition staff at Deer Lodge Centre, Misericordia Health Centre and Concordia Place. These responsibilities include assigning work and supervising Clinical Dietitians; implementing and maintaining cost control procedures; recruiting, hiring, and orienting staff; interacting with site-based management and professional staff; and maintaining professional competency and skills required for professional practice.
The incumbent functions within Nutrition and Food Services as a part of the management team of the clinical service.
**MAIN FUNCTION**:
The incumbent provides leadership and education to Registered Dietitians who work within Long Term Care settings - (Chronic Care, LTC, Day Hospitals, Personal Care Homes). The incumbent develops standardized nutrition protocols and policy for medical nutrition therapy and health promotion/prevention activities within the long-term care sector. The incumbent also provides consultation and leadership for nutrition policy issues to programs and services within the Personal Care Home program. Using a collaborative and consultative approach, the incumbent coordinates and modifies planned nutrition care activities within the long-term care sector, and provides guidance and mentorship for practitioners within this sector.
**Experience**:
- Minimum 3-5 years' experience in a long-term care setting.
- Experience with program planning and evaluation.
- Management/supervisory experience is an asset.
**Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)**:
- Bachelor’s degree in dietetics, foods and nutrition, or related area.
- Completion of an approved graduate dietetic internship program, which has been accredited by Dietitians of Canada.
- Master’s degree in human nutrition, dietetics, food and nutrition, business administration or related area is an asset.
**SPECIAL TRAINING**:
- Advanced training in nutrition support, nutrition in long term care populations, dysphagia management, adult education or geriatrics is an asset.
- Management training or healthcare administration training is an asset.
**Certification/Licensure/Registration**:
- Registered Dietitian - Registered with the College of Dietitians of Manitoba (CDM).
- Membership in Dietitians of Canada.
**Qualifications and Skills**:
- Knowledge and understanding of nutrition and the elderly.
- Knowledge and understanding of client and family centred provision of health services.
- Knowledge of ethical decision-making regarding nutrition issues.
- Ability to champion the vision, mission and values of both DLC and WRHA.
- Ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary management team.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form.
