A.W. Hooker Associates Ltd is a medium sized Quantity Surveying / Construction Cost Consultants company for the construction industry with over forty years of experience in the industry. Our expertise is collective with experts in all disciplines including Architectural, Structural, Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical.

Our Independent Certification Division is currently working on large transit, highway and hospital projects and is seeking an ambitious, goal-oriented person who is motivated by a challenge. We have an immediate opening in our Independent Certification (IC) Division.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform Monthly Site reviews
  • Experience in managing Contracts is a must including proficient Knowledge of Project Agreement contracts, including ability to search and interpret specific sections based on the requested scope .
  • Previous experience working on projects as LTA/Independent Certifier
  • Attend client meetings
  • Review monthly documentation prepared by the design builder, including design, construction, schedule, Notices, Correspondence, Cash Flow documents.
  • Prepare Monthly Reports, including reports on schedule, cash flow and documentation received.
  • Review monthly progress draw. Prepare monthly construction progress payment certifications.
  • Review commissioning plans and other documentation and prepare Commissioning reports.
  • Experience in managing the Substantial Completion of a Project is an asset.
  • Coordinate internal communication on IC work between our architectural, civil, mechanical and electrical departments

Experience and Skills

Candidates should have:

  • Excellent language skills, both verbal and written.
  • Should be able to read and understand complex contracts and review a large volume of complex documentation monthly.
  • Should be able to provide high quality, well written reports.
  • Travel to sites is required with your own vehicle. Sites may be located in the Toronto area (GTA), other locations in the province (such as Ottawa, Windsor) and out-of-province.
  • Experience in construction site review and/or construction experience, monitoring construction schedules, timelines, contract reviews and project monitoring, report writing, reading correspondences and applying to reports is desirable.
  • Experience in Independent Certification, project management, Contract Administration, payment certification for large buildings (Hospitals, Courthouses) and/or transportation projects (highways and light rapid transit) is an asset.
  • Overall five to seven years' experience is required.
  • Experience in the consulting field, in design or construction is preferred either in architecture, engineering or cost consulting.
  • A professional designation is required (PMP, Architect, P.Eng, CET, PQS, or equivalent).
  • Knowledge of PC-based spreadsheets (MS Excel) and general computer skills are essential.
