Position Overview

The Executive Director will be the primary leader and advocate overseeing the organization's strategic direction, operations, and member engagement. This role requires a dynamic leader with exceptional relationship management skills, financial acumen, and a passion for fostering innovation in the start-up ecosystem. You will work closely with the Board of Directors, investors, entrepreneurs, and other key stakeholders to drive the organization's vision and ensure sustainable growth.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Governance

  • Develop and execute the organization's strategic plan in collaboration with the Board of Directors.
  • Provide visionary leadership to advance the organization's mission and ensure long-term sustainability.
  • Maintain and enhance governance structures to support transparency and accountability.
  • Be a representative at key industry events, networking opportunities, and public relations efforts.

Operational & Financial Management

  • Oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring efficiency and alignment with strategic goals.
  • Manage the organization's financial health, including budgeting, fundraising, and investor contributions.
  • Secure and manage funding opportunities, sponsorships, and grants to support growth initiatives.
  • Implement policies and procedures to improve operational effectiveness.

Investor & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Strengthen relationships with existing angel investors and recruit new members to expand the network.
  • Foster a collaborative and engaged investor community through regular events, educational sessions, and networking opportunities.
  • Act as a liaison between investors and entrepreneurs, facilitating deal flow and due diligence processes.

Entrepreneurial Support & Deal Flow Management

  • Oversee the sourcing, vetting, and selection of high-potential start-ups for investment consideration.
  • Work closely with entrepreneurs to prepare them for pitch presentations and investor engagement.
  • Support portfolio companies by connecting them with mentorship, resources, and follow-on funding opportunities.
  • Track and report on investment outcomes and portfolio performance.

Marketing & Community Outreach

  • Develop and execute marketing strategies to enhance visibility and impact.
  • Cultivate strategic partnerships with industry organizations, accelerators, government bodies, and universities.
  • Advocate for angel investing and entrepreneurship in Canada through thought leadership and public speaking engagements.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Proven leadership experience in investment, finance, venture capital, or entrepreneurship.
  • Strong understanding of the start-up ecosystem and early-stage investment processes.
  • Experience in managing non-profits, investor groups, or similar organizations is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and mobilize investors, entrepreneurs, and industry stakeholders.
  • Excellent financial management skills, including budgeting and fundraising.
  • Strong communication, public speaking, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a Board of Directors and manage a small team effectively.
