HSE Coordinator – Construction

Ensure, Protect, Excel

At Steelcon, we're not just building structures; we're shaping the future of the structural steel industry. As part of our unwavering commitment to safety and operational excellence on every project, we are seeking an experienced HSE Coordinator to champion health and safety initiatives across our projects. This role is essential in protecting our teams and ensuring that every project is executed with the highest safety standards.

If you're an HSE professional with proven expertise in construction safety, this opportunity will allow you to make a meaningful impact on the way we build, while advancing your career in a dynamic, innovative environment.

Why Join Us:

At Steelcon, safety is our foundation. As a key member of our team, you will work side-by-side with project managers, field teams, and leadership to create a secure and compliant work environment on every job site. Your expertise will drive our safety culture and ensure that every project is executed with precision and care.

Why You'll Thrive Here:

  • Leverage Your Expertise: Utilize your in-depth knowledge of construction safety to identify hazards, enforce best practices, and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborative Environment: Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to share insights, mentor craft workers, and influence on-site HSE practices.
  • Impactful Work: Directly contribute to shaping a proactive safety culture through data-driven insights and comprehensive safety initiatives.
  • Continuous Growth: Enjoy ongoing professional development and the opportunity to refine your leadership skills in a forward-thinking company.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Policy & Program Execution: Implement and monitor Steelcon's HSE policies, procedures, and initiatives across construction sites.
  • Training & Development: Identify and coordinate project-specific HSE training needs—including weekly safety topics, hazard-specific sessions, and HSE Operating Procedure reviews—to ensure teams are well-prepared.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with project managers, contractors, and leadership to drive continuous improvements in site safety. Monitor trade contractor safety compliance, review documentation, and work collaboratively with project teams to resolve safety issues.
  • Site Inspections & Risk Management: Conduct and document regular site inspections and comprehensive risk assessments; verify that equipment and tool inspections are performed and properly documented; contribute to incident investigations and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Hazard Identification: Assist in the development and implementation of hazard identification tools (e.g., CHA, JHA, PSI) to proactively manage risks.
  • Data & Trend Analysis: Gather, analyze, and report project-specific HSE data to identify trends and develop actionable improvement plans.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate safety records and prepare detailed reports to track performance and compliance.
  • Coaching & Mentoring: Provide guidance and mentorship to workers and team members, utilizing conflict resolution techniques to foster a positive safety culture.
  • Relationship Building: Develop and maintain effective relationships with all stakeholders to enhance communication and collaboration across the project.

What We're Looking For:

  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of progressive HSE experience in a construction environment.
  • Education: Diploma or Post-Secondary Degree in Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Certifications: Working toward CRSP, CSO, or NCSO certification is preferred.
  • Technical Acumen: Strong understanding of OH&S and environmental legislation, with proven skills in risk assessments and safety audits.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills, with the ability to coach, mentor, and resolve conflicts effectively.
  • Organizational Skills: Exceptional time management, multitasking abilities, and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Industry Knowledge: Solid understanding of construction processes and terminology.

If you're ready to drive safety excellence on our construction sites and help shape a strong safety culture at Steelcon, we'd love to hear from you
