We are recruiting for talented, creative and open minded Procurement Professional. This role is essential to inspire and influence buyers across Canada.  The successful candidate, will have a great opportunity to lead seasoned and experience buyers across all warehouses. This opportunity will enable you to build a strong team and solid business relationships with suppliers and understand the most cost effective ways to manage inventory across the network.

This internal role is open to anyone across the country and isn't location-specific

Responsibilities:

People management:

  • Manage a team of local and remote buyers effectively and follow best practices in supply chain
  • Work with National Purchasing Manager to maintain staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees;   maintaining a safe, secure, and legal work environment; developing personal growth opportunities.
  • Accomplish staff results by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; developing, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, procedures, and productivity standards.
  • Establish strategic goals by gathering pertinent business, financial, service, and operations information; identifying and evaluating trends and options; choosing a course of action; defining objectives; evaluating outcomes.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; participating in professional societies

Business relationships and objectives

  • Achieve annual cost improvement target of $250K by optimizing business practice and implementing process improvement initiatives
  • Take category ownership and manage specifications, spend, vendor base and contracts for assigned categories
  • Prioritize and manage all strategic initiatives for your local buying team; coordinate efforts and provide direction with support functions
  • Monitor performance of vendors against contract obligations and serve as a resource to resolve issues/problems
  • Manage vendor relationships and execute vendor performance management techniques in accordance with standards and guidelines

Inventory Management:

  • Implement and manage procurement strategies for managed inventory consistent with overall corporate and procurement objectives
  • Monitor inventory metrics and take corrective action when required
  • Maintain product availability taking into consideration sales trend, forecast, lead time and cost efficiency: Issuing requests for quotations and purchase orders
  • Supervise inventory control practice for multiple warehouses to include inventory review to reduce and eliminate any obsolete materials

Efficiencies:

  • Constantly monitor vendor market and identify opportunities resulting from new product offerings and/or market shifts (e.g., entry or exit of vendors, changes in pricing)
  • Meet key suppliers, conduct facility visits to have clear understanding of operational efficiencies
  • Work closely with sales, customer service, warehouse staff and clients
  • Supporting internal staff with expert knowledge and services, and resolve any customer complaints or problems

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Minimum 8-10 years’ supply chain and procurement experience in a high volume distribution environment
  • Certification from Supply Chain Management Association (SCMA) is preferred
  • Ability to effectively manage inventory and service level
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy with strong analytical and vendor negotiation skills
  • Strong knowledge of managing people offsite based on productivity KPI’s
  • Ability to work in a Windows environment with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Previous experience working with AS/400 system an asset
