Job Description
The position of processing superintendent will oversee all daily operations of the primary processing pork plant ensuring compliance with guidelines, policies, and procedures. The incumbent will develop and adhere to defined processes that will maximize stewardship, team development, safety, quality, yields and productivity. This role will be a member of the operations leadership team and must adhere to the values of the organization when making decisions and solving problems. As a senior leader in the organization, the role must encourage employee follow-ship and be an example of the culture that define North 49 Foods. Our customers are at the core of all we do and this incumbent must exhibit a propensity to meet customer expectation without compromising safety, quality, compliance requirements, and unnecessary waste.
Responsibilities
Daily Duties
- Walk production floor to review quality, waste, employee well being and opportunities for improvement.
- Daily huddle with production supervisors to review orders, manning and any changes.
- Attend daily update meetings
- Review GMP, HACCP compliance through reports and observations
- Review safety concerns and address through COGZ
- Update PM on key issues requiring support
- Review all add on orders through production planning
- Review daily call ins and make necessary changes to manning with the supervisors
- Guide team towards achieving zero lost time and medical aid incidents
Weekly Duties
- Attend weekly production planning meeting with input and observations.
- 1 on 1 with direct reports
- HR review on manning, vacancies, discipline, union issues
- Execute a minimum of 2 stop observations per week.
- GMP adherence review with QA, include pre-op findings.
- Interview prospective new employees.
- Review KPI’s from critical numbers
- Set up new products as directed by sales.
- Review dry goods inventory with inventory clerk and recommend order points.
- Review all ADP timecards for completeness and accuracy.
- Biweekly approve ADP timecards for further payment
- Aid in investigating customer complaints and formalize solutions.
- Review all vacation/LOA and planned absences to ensure a balanced manning schedule.
Monthly Duties
- Contribute/organize town hall meetings for entire plant
- Joint monthly review with the union
- Attend monthly OPS meeting and act as representative in absence of Plant Manager
- Review KPI’s with Plant Manager and communicate opportunities to supervisors
- Attend monthly QA meetings
- Validate/Approve hourly vacation schedules
- Report to Plant Manager areas of concern with staff, process, planning or supply
- Review good neighbour schedules and activities
- Prepare and participate in any 3rd party audit or customer visits
Annual Duties
- Participate in Capital plan for following year
- Performance management for review for staff
- IDP for staff

Position Requirements
- Plant Management experience of no less than 4 years
- Adequate knowledge of business and management principles (budgeting, strategic planning, resource allocation and human resources)
- Familiarity with industry standards, equipment, and technical expertise
- Knowledgeable of safety, quality, productivity, yield management, demand creation, inventory and stewardship processes
- Computer literacy
- Ability to create accountability and to lead by example
- Strong team building, decision-making, and people management skills
