The application developer role entails the timely delivery of high-quality custom software to GDI, within the scope of specific software program. The successful candidate will require technical knowledge of the technology involved and to become SME in the software services being delivered. This position will work with other IT departments in a way to meet best practices in all aspect of the software development cycle. The ideal candidate will use a collaborative and adaptable approach to drive consensus in design and technology alignment with our overall enterprise application strategies.

  • Reports To: Senior Vice-President of Enterprise Application
  • Division: MIS
  • Location: Mississauga / Remote


Responsibilities:


  • Support current software
  • Help the business troubleshoot issue
  • Perform maintenance tasks
  • Perform ad hoc tasks for the business or other IT dept, like extracting backend data
  • Create training document and train the business
  • Design, write, read, test, and correct code for new software
  • Analyze information to recommend and plan the installation of new systems or modifications of an existing system
  • Evaluate simple interrelationships between programs such as whether a contemplated change in one part of a program would cause unwanted results in a related part
  • Write documentation for new and updated software.
  • Interact with key business stakeholders to understand, and capture software requirements.
  • Assist in complex sizing, resource estimates, scope, and requirements.
  • Provide industry and/or technology expertise to development team and customers.
  • Support Quality Assurance team to document test cases to carry out various levels of testing. (Unit, SIT, UAT)
  • Apply business leading practices to functional and architectural design
  • Assist IT team members in translating functional business requirements into technical report specifications.
  • Partner with IT to manage, build and develop reporting artifacts. Hands on collaborative development of analytical systems, strategies and best practices
  • Handle and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Collaborate with other internal IT staff as needed to maintain high service standards.
  • Ensure leading practices and standards are followed.
  • Adherence to company policies and procedures.
  • Availability for occasional off-hours or weekend tasks.

Requirements


  • A diploma or degree in Computer Science/Information Technology or an equivalent combination of skills and experience.
  • 5+ years of software development experience
  • Support testing/UAT and QA as needed
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills
  • Strong and confident communicator to interface with IT and business
  • Adhere to and follows IT governance practices and policies as defined
  • The ideal candidate for this position thrives on facing new challenges
  • Proficient with Microsoft Windows & Office, especially Excel
  • Detail-oriented and excellent organized skills
  • Ability to learn multiple software programs and databases
  • Motivated and self-disciplined
  • Valid Driver's license
  • Able to legally work in Canada or USA
  • Criminal background check will be required
  • Available to be on-call on the weekend on a rotating basis with the team
