Luke’s Place is an award-winning centre of excellence in family law support for women who have been subjected to intimate partner violence. We provide legal support services and summary legal services to hundreds of women and their children across Ontario every year and share our expertise with thousands of service providers.


Luke’s Place conducts research to understand the impact of legal and related systems and processes on women’s lives. We engage in advocacy to share these findings and improve these systems and processes. Luke’s Place envisions a family law system that promotes healthy safe families, living free from abuse, and the threat of abuse.

Position Overview:


Luke’s Place is seeking a full-time Articling Student to join our Legal Services team on a 10-month contract, beginning August 2025.  You will be supporting the delivery of legal services and training initiatives, as part of the Legal Services team. This position requires delivery of in-person services at our Oshawa office.


You will succeed at Luke’s Place if you are:


An Excellent Communicator – you bring with you the ability to quickly build rapport with lawyers, family court support workers, community stakeholders, and other Violence Against Women organizations. You have strong interpersonal skills and your communication is clear.


Interested in Law Reform & Systemic Advocacy – you have a genuine interest in law reform and system advocacy, and a general understanding of the impact of intersectionality, power, and privilege on the women our organization supports.


An Outstanding Researcher – you have a strong skillset in legal and academic research and writing and can independently seek resources.


Responsibilities:

 

●    Assist Staff Lawyers in the delivery of limited scope family law services

●    Draft court documents and attend court with women, supervised by Staff Lawyers

●    Attend Legal Clinic appointments and record notes for women

●    Assist in the facilitation of public legal education seminars

●    Assist with external and internal legal training initiatives

●    Conduct legal and academic research

●    Develop legal resources for women and support workers throughout Ontario

●    Draft position papers and advocacy letters on law reform projects


Requirements and Qualifications:

 

●    Entering final year of post-secondary studies in law, or be a recent graduate of law school

●    Completion of a family law related course at law school

●    Demonstrated interest in, and understanding of the dynamics of intimate partner violence

●    Sound understanding and commitment to a feminist, trauma-informed, gender-based, and intersectional analysis framework, and anti-oppression values

●    Satisfactory Criminal Record Check (including a Vulnerable Sector Screening)
