This role provides unique and strategic insight into competitive bidding, when possible, with the detailed creation and review of budgets/estimates/quotes/bids. This role assists Prodigy in winning project opportunities in various sectors of the industry.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:


  • Efficiently and effectively work with the estimating team, to mentor and train less experienced team members.
  • Possesses very strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Builds effective relationships with specialty contractors, suppliers and user groups that reflect and support Prodigy’s core values and that meet or exceed the customer’s expectations.
  • Researches historical tendering and award data, compiling information requested in an organized and clear format for team reference.
  • Researches and communicates data on construction industry labour and material cost trends.
  • Maintains and constantly updates Tender/Supplier lists according to varying project and company requirements by: 1) Sourcing and qualifying new subcontractors and suppliers. 2) Reviewing and communicating with Prodigy team at initial project tender invite and at project completion to determine strengths and weakness of each subcontractor/supplier. 3) Organizing and updating the list to ensure each subcontractor/suppliers’ details are noted for future reference.
  • Thoroughly reviews bid/RFP invitations, as well as public/private tender sites/forums, and clearly and accurately presents information to Prodigy senior leadership team to confirm bid/proposal intent.
  • Ensures the flow of project information is properly maintained and documented.
  • Attends project sites for walk throughs and meetings.
  • Manages and is responsible for the bid/proposal process and bid/proposal submission.
  • Possesses a skilled ability and/or assist in preparing the creation of finely detailed Class D to A construction cost estimates. The expectation of a finely detailed Class D Estimate is to provide experience based, unit rates (not lump sum costs per division) for each expected element, scope of work, etc. from a very preliminary schematic plan.
  • Continually refines the Class D Estimate as drawings and documents are further developed through to an Issued for Tender and Issued for Construction Set.
  • Ensures that the following are completed within a timely and efficient manner: 1) Drawings are fully coordinated. 2) Errors and/or omissions are identified. 3) Provides steps to rectifying. 4) Reviews and provides possible solutions to constructability challenges. 5) Coordinates and integrates site logistics and other conditions/elements. 6) Analyzes alternate means and methods to determine the most economical alternatives as required. 7) Identifies risk issues and assesses and reports them in their order of magnitude.
  • Intimately, efficiently and accurately manages the Tender and Bid process from start to finish, with subcontractors, suppliers, Clients, Consultants, Prodigy team members and all other parties with invested interests.
  • Prepares estimate documentation including but not limited to: 1)Project specific tender bidder’s list noting pre-qualified and/or appropriate subcontractors and suppliers. 2) Detailed, written scopes of work specific for each scope noting not only known inclusions and exclusions based on the project documents but also including for add all foreseeable unknowns and scope considerations not noted in the project documents. 3) Detailed bid forms with all Supplemental Conditions and/or Appendices accurately stipulated. 4) Completes and reviews all quantity take-offs. 5) Drawing and document logs. 6) Accurate and thorough bid analyses and contract award recommendations.


Skills and Knowledge:


  • The level of education required to perform the duties of this role is a Diploma of Collegial Studies.
  • The required job experience is a minimum of 5 years.
  • The preferred professional designations, accreditations, certifications, and/or licenses include CEC certified through Canadian Institute of Quantity Surveying and an Engineering degree (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Structural).
  • A minimum of 5+ years of experience using MS Office Suite, MS Project, Bluebeam, ProCore, On-Screen Take-Off and related estimating software.
  • Must have local experience in estimating interior renovation/fit-out and ground-up commercial construction as a general contractor and/or construction manager.
  • Retail, hospitality, institutional estimating experience will be a preferred, notable, additional asset.
  • Industrial and mid-high rise residential estimating experience will be considered a tertiary asset.
  • Demonstrates a high degree of resourcefulness, flexibility, and adaptability.
  • Demonstrates an ability to work in teams and supports a strong team concept while also having the ability to be highly self-motivated and directed; ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.

  • Possesses strong knowledge and demonstrates a fundamental understanding of: 1) All disciplines of construction documents (Architectural, Design, Mechanical, Electrical, Structural, Civil and Landscaping, etc). 2) Construction science 3) Sequence of work 4) Construction Contracts and Construction Law 5) Construction Health & Safety, Ministry of Labour, Health Department, requirements 6) Ontario and other regional/provincial building codes


Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:


  • The primary work environment for this role is the office, with expectations of occasional exposure to external environmental conditions. This role may have an expectation of business travel outside the normal work site, and potential overnight travel, dependent on business needs.
