We are a not-for-profit organisation committed to inspiring and enabling more Canadians to think BIG, take risks, and drive global impact. We have partnered with The Department of Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) and Business and Higher Education Roundtable (Bher) to deliver Wavemakers a Work Integrated Learning program (WIL) for post-secondary students to gain experience and connections helping them integrate more rapidly into the workforce.


Wavemakers is a first-of-its-kind Work-Integrated Learning Program delivered in our custom-built virtual reality campus. We have developed a nine-session program that teaches students future-proof capabilities needed to thrive in the future workplace. 

The program involves:  

  • Expert speakers
  • Small group mentoring
  • Prototype design
  • Active application of learnings
  • Employer connections


Role Description

As the Programming and Student Experience Director, you will serve as the driving force to ensure that our students have an exceptional experience across the organization's educational, and career-building offerings. This pivotal role involves comprehensive oversight of program content, structure, and delivery, ensuring exceptional student experience leading to high levels of referral and engagement.


You will lead the student experience and programming team with a focus on fostering innovation, leveraging data for continuous improvement, and maintaining educational and experiential excellence, ensuring students have a positive and enriching experience throughout their journey. 


Additionally, this role involves a hands-on approach to program delivery and dedicated relationship management with current and new Post Secondary Institute partners to embed Wavemakers into their curriculum programs. You will be responsible for creating and maintaining relationships to deliver Wavemakers to Canadian and International students across the country 


Specific Accountabilities:  

  • Student Experience: Ensure Wavemakers is delivering exceptional student experience, to minimize dropouts and elevate ongoing engagement and referral. 
  • Relationship Management: Establish and maintain strong relationships with students, mentors, and stakeholders to foster a supportive and collaborative learning environment.
  • Process and Continual Improvement: Focus on process optimization of core activity to build an increasingly scalable model of delivery for growth. 
  • Curriculum Development Develop and refine content to complement our core program ensuring a dynamic and enriching learning experience for all participants ensuring accessible and effective assistance.
  • Measurement: Implement mechanisms for evaluating student engagement and satisfaction, gathering feedback, and using data-driven insights to continuously improve all aspects of the student experience. Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) and relevant data points to assess the impact and effectiveness of the program offerings. 
  • Program Oversight and Delivery:  Ensure that all programming aligns with the organization's objectives and meets the diverse requirements of stakeholders, including students, mentors, and identified Post Secondary Institutes, also delivering Wavemakers' programming, prioritizing an engaging and impactful learning experience focused on students' needs and learning outcomes.


Skills and Experience:

  • Bilingual in French and English essential
  • Technology & The Virtual Space: Ability to innovate and leverage technology to enhance educational delivery and student engagement. Proven experience in building online communities is an advantage. 
  • Strategic Vision: Proficient in strategic planning and organizational development, knowledgeable in translating educational objectives into actionable plans.
  • Curriculum Expertise: In-depth knowledge of curriculum development ensuring program content is engaging and academically sound. Experience in innovative academic program management and delivery, with demonstrated ability to oversee complex educational initiatives. 
  • Leadership: Strong leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and develop a diverse programming team towards achieving shared goals, fostering a culture of collaboration, respect and ongoing growth.
  • Process and Time Management Leadership: Demonstrated strength in managing processes and time effectively, setting a high standard for the team in organizational efficiency and productivity.
  • Analytical and Data-Driven: Skilled in using data analytics to inform decisions, drive improvements and measure outcomes effectively.
  • Collaborative Mindset: Ability to work collaboratively across teams to ensure a unified approach to program delivery.
  • Agile Mindset: Capable and agile in adapting to evolving trends and changing needs within and beyond the organization. 
  • Diversity & Inclusion: Experience working with diverse student populations, including both Canadian and international students, and those from underrepresented groups with an understanding of cultural differences and needs in educational settings.


In this role, the Director of Programming and Student Experience is integral in shaping a vibrant and effective educational environment at Wavemakers, driving the organization’s educational strategy and ensuring that programs are impactful, relevant, and aligned with the latest educational best practices. Enriching experience for all students, ensuring their success and satisfaction with the Wavemakers program. This position requires a passionate and empathetic individual dedicated to student-centred service and continuous improvement in educational delivery.
