Structural Engineer

A prominent company in the potash industry is seeking a Structural Engineer to join the team for a 6-month secondment, supporting the Surface Asset Integrity Program. In this role, you will play a key part in ensuring the integrity of structural assets through inspections, design, and technical support. This position requires a strong commitment to safety, technical expertise in structural engineering, and the ability to collaborate with diverse teams to address structural deficiencies and improve asset reliability.
Location: Saskatoon, Saskatchewan
Duration: 6-month secondment (starting January 2025)
Schedule: 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM on a 9/80 schedule (Monday-Thursday one week, Monday-Friday the next; 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM on the short week)
Key Responsibilities:
- Technical Scopes & Work Packages: Write detailed technical scopes of work and create work packages for addressing structural deficiencies across the mine site.
- Design & Repairs: Develop engineered repair plans for small-scale structural deficiencies, ensuring compliance with relevant codes and standards.
- Inspections & Reporting: Conduct regular structural inspections, review findings, and provide comprehensive reports on the condition of structures.
- Support to Teams: Provide technical support to Tradespeople, Supervisors, Planners, Engineers, and Operations teams on structural integrity issues.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure structural designs and installations meet relevant industry codes and standards, as well as Nutrien Specifications, laws, and regulations.
- Guidance Compliance: Maintain adherence to Corporate Structural Integrity Guidance Documents, ensuring all work is aligned with best practices.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Education: Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Professional Designation: Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation is required.
- Safety: A strong commitment to safety and demonstrated leadership in safety protocols and practices.
- Communication Skills: Ability to effectively communicate both written and orally with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
- Analytical Skills: Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills to address engineering challenges.
- Attention to Detail: Highly detail-oriented with the ability to work efficiently in a team environment.
- Software Proficiency: Experience with Microsoft Office, and Computer Aided Structural Analysis & Design software (e.g., Staad Pro, SAP2000, or similar).
- 3D Modeling Experience: Familiarity with 3D Modeling and Design Software is an asset.
- Industry Experience: Prior experience in a potash mine, oil & gas, or industrial setting is considered an asset.
