Kelly's client, a multinational, privately-owned Canadian company located in Burlington, ON, is seeking a Senior Dispatcher with extensive experience in dispatch operations, US border procedures, and customs. This is a permanent position.
Responsibilities:
Operations – Dispatch:
- Execute the dispatch plan effectively.
- Dispatch all loads to drivers, providing them with accurate pick-up and drop-off information.
- Persuade drivers to accept challenging loads and work off-schedule to meet customer demands.
- Inform drivers about procedures to follow, such as handling incorrect addresses and wait times.
- Manage the trailer pool and assign trailers as needed.
- Follow up on dropped trailers and close orders in the Transportation Management System.
- Adhere to standard operating procedures for goods transportation and documentation.
- Recommend procedural changes to enhance efficiency and provide corrective actions.
Driver Liaison:
- Serve as the main contact for drivers.
- Perform on-call services as per department policy, with flexible hours based on customer demand.
- Monitor drivers' hours of service and alert supervisors when maximum hours are nearing.
- Support drivers in resolving issues related to loads, equipment, and delivery timing.
- Assist drivers with personal issues, such as absences, vacation scheduling, and other time off.
- Help administrators and drivers with paperwork and driver envelope information.
- Coordinate with Fleet Operations to contact drivers regarding fleet maintenance, safety, and compliance needs.
- Support the management team with disciplinary actions.
- Cross-train in various operational boards, including Logistics, Local/PQ, and USA.
- Provide coverage for team members' illnesses or vacations.
- Develop effective working relationships with other operations personnel.
- Ensure smooth transition of work to other dispatchers.
- Participate in industry associations and attend related conferences.
Requirements:
- 5-10 years of experience in the transportation industry as a dispatcher.
- Experience with US border and customs procedures.
- University/College degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
- CITT Accreditation (Canadian Institute of Traffic and Transportation) is desired.
- Completion of industry-related training courses.
- Proficiency with transportation management software and Excel, TMW training.
- On-the-job training specific to the function, with proficiency expected within three months.
- Confidence and the ability to handle pressure effectively.
- Results-oriented and driven to achieve targets.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- High accuracy and attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, persuasiveness, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment.
- General Health & Safety orientation.
- WHMIS training.
Perks:
- Permanent full-time position in Burlington, Ontario.
- Salary ranges from $72,000 to $80,000, depending on experience, with benefits starting after three months.
