Are you a seasoned leader with a deep understanding of law enforcement and a commitment to public safety? The City of Beaumont is looking for a dedicated Supervisor of Municipal Enforcement to join our team. In this pivotal role, you will lead the Municipal Enforcement staff, ensuring the enforcement of municipal bylaws and provincial statutes through proactive patrols and complaint responses. Your leadership will enhance community service by coordinating with other City departments and external agencies, ensuring the highest quality of service and safety for the community.


What YOU’RE Responsible for:

• Supervision of Municipal Enforcement Department Peace Officers and Staff

o Provide direction through policy, procedures, and operational guidance to Officers

o Review and oversee Officer work to ensure quality

o Ensure Officers are properly trained and equipped, managing the budget for training and equipment

o Ensure department adherence to Alberta Solicitor General standards and City policies


• Proactive Patrols

o Enforce traffic offenses

o Patrol parking offenses, provincial issues, and city bylaw infractions

o Address any violations of municipal bylaws, provincial statutes, or safety concerns, including animal control when needed


• Liaison with Other Departments, Outside Agencies, and Residents

o Provide department information to Manager and Council

o Attend meetings to collaborate on City functions and concerns

o Meet with outside agencies to improve service quality in Beaumont

o Assist with administrative functions to support Municipal Enforcement department and Global Traffic contract

o Engage with residents regarding enforcement policies and participate in community events


• Investigation of Citizen Complaints

o Receive and investigate complaints regarding municipal bylaws and provincial statutes, including animal control

o Communicate with involved parties to ensure quality service

o Take appropriate steps to investigate issues, including paperwork and document collection

o Take action such as issuing fines or warnings based on discretion


• Assist Other Departments and Agencies

o Assist RCMP, Fire, and EMS with emergency situations and calls for service

o Help with traffic/crowd control and investigations at scenes including traffic collisions and fires

o Assist City departments with serving documents when required

o Other duties as requested by Director Protective Services or designate


• Training

o Train and certify in use of force as per Peace Officer guidelines

o Participate in other required training for specific roles


What YOU Bring:

Education:

• 2 years of post-secondary education in law enforcement

• Successful completion of Alberta Solicitor General approved Level 1 Community Peace Officer training course

• Ability to pass an approved physical (PARE/COPAT)

• Ability to obtain Level 1 Peace Officer status

• RCMP enhanced security check and a clean valid class 5 driver’s license


Experience:

• 5 years’ experience as a Level 1 Peace Officer, with prior supervisory experience

• Proficiency in Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word or similar computer systems

• Experience in public service, handling confrontations, and working under high stress and short deadlines

• A common-sense approach to violations and experience in community policing models
