What YOU’RE Responsible For:
  • Examine both public and private properties in accordance with the Alberta Weed Control Act and Regulations.
  • Inform residents about the environmental and economic repercussions of weed infestations, invasive species, and guide them in recognizing problematic weeds on their premises.
  • Provide guidance to landowners regarding their obligations under the Weed Control Act and outline consequences for non-compliance.
  • Implement the Alberta Weed Control Act by issuing notices, monitoring deadlines, utilizing GIS software, and taking enforcement actions on properties that fail to comply.
  • Maintain professional communication with diverse stakeholders, including residents, industry representatives, and commercial businesses.
  • Handle confidential and sensitive information in the course of duties.
What YOU Bring:
  • High School Diploma with two years related experience
  • Post-secondary education with an emphasis on applicable biological science courses such as botany, plant science, ecology is preferred
  • Courses and experience with weed identification and the Weed Control Act are strong assets
  • Previous municipal experience is an asset
  • Current Standard First Aid certification is an asset
  • Pesticide Applicator’s Certificate would be an asset
  • Knowledge of the Alberta Weed Control Act
  • Strong plant identification skills
  • Effective customer service, public relations and communication skills (verbal and written) to work with diverse groups of individuals and the ability to deal with residents in challenging situations
  • Experience working with the public in various situations including one on one communications, public speaking, and educating
  • An understanding of agricultural practices
  • General computer proficiency and the ability to learn department specific software
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision, as most work occurs on private property in remote rural areas
  • Adhere to all safety standards and promote Beaumont’s health and safety program
  • Submission of Satisfactory Criminal Record Check
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s licence and submission of a 5-year Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits
  • Ability to perform physical labour as part of the job duties and stand/walk for extended periods of time
