Senior Data Engineer

Location - Greater Toronto Area

On-Site - 3 days per week in office

Contract - 6 months to start


Key Responsibilities:

- Develop, implement, and manage large-scale enterprise data solutions using Hadoop, PostgreSQL, and Snowflake.

- Showcase exceptional proficiency with AWS cloud services, focusing on data engineering and analytics.

- Assess, redesign, and migrate on-premises big data infrastructure to modern platforms.

- Create and establish solution designs for acquiring and integrating diverse data sets (both internal and external), and building data warehouses/marts.

- Work closely with business stakeholders, product owners, subject matter experts, business analysts, IT architects, and developers to craft solution designs that align with architectural standards.

- Ensure data solutions comply with enterprise data governance and design guidelines.

- Serve as the primary contact for resolving architectural, technical, and solution-related issues, ensuring delivery teams operate with optimal efficiency.

- Design and implement ETL pipelines to integrate data into Hadoop from various data sources (e.g., Files, Mainframe, Relational Sources, NoSQL) using Informatica BDM.

- Promote the significance of data catalogs, governance, and quality best practices.

- Apply strong problem-solving abilities to tackle complex challenges.

- Participate in an Agile delivery environment to refine data models and solution designs, delivering incremental value.

- Be proactive and experienced in working within a dynamic, fast-paced agile development setting.

- Provide mentorship and guidance, leading by example for junior team members.

- Focus on outcomes with strong decision-making and critical thinking capabilities, challenging the status quo to enhance delivery speed and effectiveness.


Qualifications:

- Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering or Computer Science.

- Experience: Over 8 years of hands-on experience designing solutions for data lakes, data integrations, and data warehouses/marts.

- Technical Skills: Extensive experience with data technologies such as Hadoop, PostgreSQL, and Informatica.

- ETL Skills: Proficient in using various execution modules in BDM, including Spark, Hive, and Native, with strong ETL skills utilizing the Informatica suite.

- Cloud Data Lake Design: Familiar with cloud data lake design, ideally with experience in AWS technologies such as S3, EMR, Redshift, and Data Catalog.
