Responsibilities

  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of all accounting entries and balances in conjunction with outsourced accounting service provider: Coordinate with outsourced accounting service provider to ensure timely delivery of source information, including uploading of various statements for investments, bank accounts, and batch payments, etc.; Review vendor invoices for appropriate account coding and submit to outsourced accounting service provider; Review expense reports and Visa statement reconciliations for accuracy and completeness of supporting documentation and appropriate account coding and submit to outsourced accounting service provider; Prepare intercompany management fee calculations, cost allocation schedules, and the related intercompany invoices; Prepare general ledger account reconciliations and schedules; and, May also include preparing and entering accounting entries in Xero.*
  • Support with providing backup documentation to auditors during several annual external audits;
  • Support the treasury and accounts payable processes as follows:
  • Manage accounting inboxes and distribute invoices as required; and, Plan payment schedule for incoming invoices for multiple entities.
  • Support the tax compliance process as follows: Assist with preparation of GST returns as required; Assist with preparation of the backup schedules to support the annual Canadian personal, trust, partnership, and corporate tax returns and filings; Assist with preparation of annual Canadian personal tax returns/filings/elections and U.S. filings and simple Canadian corporate tax returns/filings/elections; Follow up on queries from CRA and IRS as required; and, Assist with preparation of the annual charitable information return.
  • Contribute to creating and maintaining an efficient, accurate reporting process; and,
  • Complete special projects, including updating and completing policy and procedure manuals.


Qualifications

  • Experience working in a professional environment that requires a high level of confidentiality and compliance to a code of conduct;
  • At least 3-5 years of work experience in an investment management or family office environment;
  • Post-secondary education in accounting/tax with a strong understanding of accounting principles, bookkeeping, and tax;
  • Background in tax compliance, including tax return preparation and GST filings;
  • A natural aptitude for being organized and detail-oriented with good written and oral communication;
  • The ability to prioritize tasks, learn quickly, and work both independently and as part of a team;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and Adobe;
  • Proficiency with Xero, Dext, Cantax, and TaxPrep
