Webuild has won a new contract to deliver the Pape Tunnel and Underground Stations section of the Ontario Line and we are currently seeking a Cost Control Lead


This position is a full-time 100% onsite position at our downtown office.


About the Role:


The Cost Control Lead will oversee the cost management for our PTUS project. In this role, they will work collaboratively with various department managers to analyze costs and maximize profitability. To succeed in this position, the Cost Control Lead will demonstrate an aptitude for efficiency, problem-solving, and resourcefulness, with a deep commitment to the bottom line without compromising quality. Cost Control Lead will manage a small team of Cost Control specialists.


Role and General Responsibilities:

  • Work in conjunction with all department heads to ensure maximum profitability
  • Provide critical assessment of all budgets and cost projections
  • Assess all incoming products, resources, and services to ensure the best price
  • Maintain vendor and service provider relationships
  • Remain acutely aware of market trends that could impact resource costs
  • Keep up to date on new vendors and possible cost-cutting partnerships
  • Analyze invoices to ensure correct products/services were received at the expected cost
  • Collaborate with department heads to strategize ways to minimize waste
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the interdependency of cost drivers
  • Understand the entire arc of the business and how productivity impacts profitability
  • Commit to maximizing efficiency at all levels without compromising quality
  • Develop and implement proactive solutions and cost-cutting measures
  • Present new strategies and assessments to stakeholders in a compelling fashion
  • Educate and persuade stakeholders to procure buy-in and cooperation
  • Roll out clear cost-saving programs with timelines and assessment goals
  • Responsible to control and monitor project total expenditure including verifying and checking, staff timesheets, invoices and claims from suppliers, vendors and subcontractors to ensure that all project expenditures are captured and properly recorded.
  • Provide planning and cost controlling support for the project, which includes variation reporting, monitoring of milestone progress to the preparation of customer billing processes, etc.
  • Perform and manage project activity scheduling and monitoring
  • Perform technical and commercial review of EPCI long time tenders (subcontractor’s quotations) for the preparation of Service agreements
  • Ensure effective project implementation and utilize productive reports from the creation of WBS with the use of project management system to monitor the status of all purchases, invoicing and delivery up to the closure of the project.
  • Coordinate and work with the project management team to resolve project issues to ensure the delivery/completion of the project work.
  • Attend project meetings and discussions with the PMT and external clients


Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical), Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Finance, or a related field.
  • Master's degree in a relevant field is a plus. Professional certifications such as Certified Cost Professional (CCP), Project Management Professional (PMP) is a plus
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in cost control or cost engineering, with at least 5 years in a lead role on large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing multi-million dollar budgets on infrastructure projects
  • Proven track record in implementing and managing cost control systems and processes
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and knowledge of SAP
  • Knowledge of Primavera P6 is a plus
