Director of IT: Fulltime Role
Location: Vancouver, BC, Canada
Staffing Placement Opportunity
Summary:
Our client is looking for a Director of IT to join our company. This role can be located anywhere
within BC with Vancouver, BC as the preferred location. The Director of IT will report into the
Director of Operations and be part of the leadership team.
The Director of IT is responsible for driving forward the technology strategy to support the
corporate strategic plan. This role is responsible for the smooth operations of technology
infrastructure, which includes the software development, deployment, infrastructure, and
maintenance. You will establish the technology architecture and standards for business systems
to facilitate the flow of operational data with scalable and dynamic processes that can rapidly
evolve to meet changing business requirements.
You will lead a team of IT professionals and ensure that the IT infrastructure, systems, and
services are aligned with the business goals, objectives and deliver efficient and innovative
technology solutions. You will also be responsible for security and compliance as it relates to IT.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy:
● Develop and implement the IT vision, strategy, and roadmap for the organization
● Establish and execute a compatible enterprise-wide infrastructure and architectural plan
aligned to the short and long-term strategic goals for our client
● Direct the strategy development, oversee the implementation and budget for network
configuration, including disaster recovery and systems availability
● Manage the utilization of the cloud infrastructure and backup sites, including preparing,
maintaining, and testing technology for disaster recovery
● Oversee infrastructure components inventory, utilizing lifecycle asset management
methods and tools, and effective change management processes
● Accountable to ensure technology documentation and certificates are always up to date
● Act as the key contact for Vendor Management for all infrastructure needs
● Define KPI's and SLA's in conjunction with the Director of Operations, and ensure
appropriate service levels throughout the organization
● Accountable to manage the change control processes within the IT Department
● Align application roadmaps with enterprise architecture standards.
● Stay updated on the latest IT trends, best practices, and standards
● Ensure the reliability, security, and scalability of the organization’s IT infrastructure.
Stakeholder Engagement:
● Communicate and collaborate with the senior management, stakeholders, and users on
the IT needs and solutions
● Partner with various stakeholders to facilitate excellent change management
Project Management/Operations:
● Oversee the planning, execution, and completion of IT projects, ensuring they are
delivered on time and within budget.
● Lead and coordinate the IT projects, initiatives, and innovations
● Responsible for excellent service delivery
● Review and supervise configurations
Security & Compliance:
● Ensure the security, availability, reliability, and scalability of the IT infrastructure,
systems, and services
● Monitor and evaluate the IT performance, risks, and compliance
● Develop and execute a security strategy
● Identify and mitigate IT service delivery risks, ensure compliance and maintain business
continuity
● Approve the selection of new technology to ensure compliance and security.
Budgeting:
● Manage the IT budget, optimizing costs while maintaining high standards of service.
● Plan and execute the IT budget, procurement, and vendor management
Team Leadership:
● Lead, mentor, and manage the IT team, fostering a collaborative and productive work
environment.
● Manage the IT team, including hiring, training, mentoring, and performance evaluation
● Manage all aspects of Infrastructure Operations, Service Desk, and the associated team
● Conduct daily and weekly scrum meetings as needed
Requirements
● Education: Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related
field (Master’s preferred).
● Experience: Minimum of 10 years in IT, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
● Experience working in the VFX industry is considered an asset
● Proven track record of managing and delivering complex IT projects and solutions
● Strong knowledge and experience in IT infrastructure, systems, and services, such as
network, cloud, servers, databases, applications, security, and support
● Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
● Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
● Ability to lead, motivate, and inspire a diverse IT team
● Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks and deadlines
● Certifications in IT management, project management, or relevant areas are preferred
● Skills: Strong leadership, strategic planning, project management, and communication
skills. Proficiency in IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, and vendor management.
● Knowledge of change management processes and experience implementing and
maintaining change management workflows
● Experience managing a hybrid on-prem and cloud environment
● High level of technical understanding and competence with the ability to quickly analyze
situations and dive in to lead and coordinate
● Experience in an agile & scrum environment
● Excellent communication & documentation skills
