WORK HOURS : Evening 6:30 pm- 9:30 pm on Tue and Thu

DBNC is an accredited, non-profit organization providing support services to residents of Mississauga including newcomers to Canada, youth, seniors, and families. POSITION OVERVIEW

The Dixie Bloor Neighborhood Centre requires an evening Instructor for Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) program to teach learners at CLB 4 and 5. This is a contract position until March 31, 2024 with a strong possibility for extension.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Teach a CLB 4/5 class applying LINC Curriculum Guidelines, CLB documents and PBLA principlesConducts classes in a respectful, culturally sensitive and engaging manner, foster self-directed learningProvide client-centered, task-based, communicative programmingDesign motivational lesson plansAssess learners’ needs and progress. Provide feedback and assign appropriate Benchmarks when needed.Prepare progress reports at the end of the termMaintain clear and accurate records of learners’ attendanceParticipate in special events (if needed) to enhance learners’ participation and cultural experienceParticipate in LINC and agency events: AGM, UW fundraising, Summer Fest and etc.

Qualifications:

TESL Ontario accreditation or completion of a TESL ProgramB. A. or equivalentMinimum 1 year of LINC/ESL teaching experience with adultsStrong pedagogical skills and creative abilitiesDemonstrated understanding and application of CLB. Completed CLB Boot Camp.Previous experience providing online course, knowledge of virtual teaching platforms (ex. Zoom, Google classroom) and technical troubleshooting is an asset.PBLA knowledge or readiness learnExperience working in a multicultural environment. Demonstrated sensitivity to the needs of adult immigrants and refugees.Ability to work independently with solid time management and organizational skills, punctual, reliable, disciplinedCriminal Record Check for vulnerable sector must be completed prior to employment
