Reporting to the Manager of Economic Development, the Tourism Supervisor is responsible for the City of Cornwall’s overall tourism development efforts and oversees activities in the areas of destination marketing, visitor information services, stakeholder and industry relations (internal and external), long-term planning and budgeting, tourism product and event development, and other tourism and economic development related initiatives and projects as required. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop, manage and implement various initiatives and programs that promote the City of Cornwall as a premier destination for all types of tourism-related activities.
  • Initiate and develop new and existing tourism products related to the City of Cornwall and its tourism assets.
  • Foster strong relationships within the City of Cornwall with key tourism partners/businesses to encourage and implement marketing, promotion and visitor information services. This includes working with other City Departments, neighbouring municipalities and tourism offices, community partners, tourism associations, regional tourism groups, and local and senior levels of government.
  • Coordinate visitor information services for the City of Cornwall. This includes interacting with visitors and potential visitors to Cornwall in person, online and by phone as well as providing guidance to visitors on memorable events, attractions, and experiences to explore while visiting the City and region.
  • Develop efforts to market Cornwall as a desirable visitor destination by using writing, digital and photography skills to promote the community through various mediums (Cornwall Tourism website, social media, print, TV, et al).
  • Create key information resources, such as the Visitor Guide, and ensure these resources are available at information racks at local attractions, accommodations and public places with City of Cornwall, as well as at other locations.
  • Represent Cornwall Tourism and the City of Cornwall at various trade shows, conferences, business events, festivals and public events.
  • Develop, manage and oversee the annual tourism budget and seasonal visitor information centre.
  • Provide assistance and support to local festivals and events, conferences and major sporting events on an as-needed basis.
  • Provide administrative support to the Tourism Development Corporation of Cornwall (TDCC) as per the existing service agreement with the City of Cornwall. This includes assisting with intake and review process for applications to the Tourism Development Fund, setting meetings, taking minutes, overseeing financial matters, liaison with the TDCC Board of Directors and other aspects related to the administrative management of the TDCC.
  • Support the Economic Development team by undertaking special projects and duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in a progressive business or government environment.
  • Post-secondary degree in business, marketing or related field.
  • Verbal communication skills in both English and French.
  • Proven ability to multi-task and prioritize projects to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in executing marketing projects.
  • Strong writing and photography skills along with experience in websites and social media marketing.
  • Experience with proposal development, application writing, developing/delivering presentations.
  • Possess and maintain a Class G driver’s license.
  • Experience with finances and budgeting and administrative tasks.
  • Proven analytical skills, organizational skills, coupled with a strong customer service focus, the inclination to be action oriented, focused on continuous improvement.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel and PowerPoint and various types of software used in marketing applications. Knowledge of data collection and analysis.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Please note: This position involves occasional work on weekends and evenings as well as some physical requirements (such as lifting boxes) and work in outdoor elements.
