Job Description The Laboratory Operations Manager - Pharmaceutical is responsible for the quality and commercial performance of the Chemistry department in SGS. The incumbent must be capable of multi-tasking in order to meet the required sample turnaround time and client satisfaction while working together with General Manager on a regular basis. Take an active role in cultivating long-term relationships with clients, using extensive knowledge and experience as a resource for clients to utilize. Provide scientific and technical leadership to analytical research & development, validation operation including method development & validation, method transfer, method verification and other testing requests Coordinate execution of projects and hold regular communications with customers and SGS management to ensure important issues are being shared with everyone in a timely fashion. Ensure project goals and timelines are met and manage risk making appropriate technical decisions to keep projects on track and providing timely updates to senior management. Maintain a GMP-compliant analytical laboratory and safe working environment. Train & motivate staff, set goals, review performance and assess training needs, at least once a year. Ensure all quality procedures (OOS, Deviations, Complaints, CAPAs) are adhered to in the department. Assist Sales and Marketing with technical support opportunities. Review technical data, documents and proposals as required. Follow in house recruiting processes for hiring new staff. On staff dismissal follow Corporate HR requirements and coordinate the dismissal with General Manager and HR Department. Provide information support regarding Budgets & Forecasts to General Manager as required.

Qualifications

Education: Master (or Bachelor) of Science degree in Chemistry and/or related Sciences Minimum of 7 (or 10) years previous analytical pharmaceutical GMP laboratory management experience. Minimum of 7 (or 10) years of experience performing evaluation of sophisticated analytical pharmaceutical equipment or software, providing expert opinion on quality and feasibility with respect to their use in the Laboratory Thorough knowledge of chemistry / microbiology principles plus demonstrated expertise in one or more disciplines of analytical chemistry / microbiology required Supervisory/managerial experience leading a team of up to 10 direct reports
