The Canadian Press is looking for an experienced journalist to fill the position of Victoria correspondent, based at the British Columbia legislature when it is sitting. The successful applicant’s primary responsibility will be covering the legislature and B.C. politics, but they will also cover a range of news assignments, mostly on Vancouver Island, with speed and accuracy on a variety of platforms. The successful applicant will arrive for work armed with original ideas and creative ways to tell those stories to help drive the news agenda.

 

General Responsibilities:

· Cover the B.C. legislature and provincial politics

· Report on a variety of other assignments, with a focus on breaking and general news on Vancouver Island

· Produce original content for all CP platforms, including online, print, audio and video

· Generate original story ideas, projects and exclusives, with a focus on under-reported communities

· Take interesting local stories and make them nationally relevant

· Work creatively and concisely under tight deadline pressure in a digital environment

· Use social media to gather and disseminate content

· Come up with new and creative ways to tell stories on all platforms

 

Qualifications

· Experience working in a real-time, digital newsroom

· Solid news judgment

· Solid writing skills

· Strong B.C. political contacts or an ability to develop them

· Bilingualism is an asset

· Superior research skills

· Ability to work independently but is also ready to pitch in to help the team wherever needed

· Detail-oriented, with the ability to organize time and workflow effectively

· Prepared to travel on short notice wherever and whenever news breaks

· Prepared to work weekends and evenings as required

· Ability to edit copy to the standards in the CP Stylebook

La Presse Canadienne est à la recherche d’un(e) journaliste d’expérience pour occuper le poste de correspondant à Victoria qui est basé à la ’Assemblée législative de Colombie-Britannique lorsqu’elle siège. La personne choisie devra principalement couvrir les travaux parlementaires et la politique provinciale, mais sera aussi appelée à couvrir diverses affectations, notamment sur l’île de Vancouver, avec rapidité et exactitude sur une variété de plateformes. Elle se présentera au travail avec des idées originales de reportage et des façons créatives de les réaliser afin de contribuer à activer la couverture de l’actualité.

Responsabilités générales :

· Couvrir les travaux parlementaires de C.-B. et la politique provinciale

· Couvrir diverses autres affectations, notamment les nouvelles de dernière heure et l’actualité générale sur l’île de Vancouver 

· Produire du contenu original pour toutes les plateformes de la PC, incluant l’écrit, l’audio et la vidéo

· Générer des idées de reportage originales, des projets et des exclusivités, en privilégiant les communautés sous-représentées

· Traiter des nouvelles locales intéressantes pour les rendre pertinentes à l’intention d’un  public national

· Travailler de manière créative et concise sous la pression de délais serrés dans un environnement numérique

· Utiliser les réseaux sociaux pour recueillir et diffuser du contenu

· Proposer de nouvelles façons créatives de faire des reportages sur toutes les plateformes

Compétences

· Expérience de travail d’information en temps réel dans une salle de rédaction numérique

· Solide jugement journalistique 

· Solides compétences de rédaction 

· Bon réseau de contacts politiques en C.-B. ou habilité à en acquérir

· Le bilinguisme est un atout

· Aptitudes supérieures de recherche

· Habileté à travailler de façon autonome, tout en étant disposé à donner un coup de main à l’équipe au besoin  

· Souci du détail et habileté à organiser son temps et son travail de façon efficace

· Prêt à se déplacer dans les plus brefs délais quand et où l’actualité l’exige

· Prêt à travailler les week-ends et en soirée si nécessaire

· Habileté à réviser la copie selon les normes du «CP Stylebook»
