POSITION PURPOSE Reporting to the Manager, Health Protection, the Senior Public Health Inspector is responsible for identifying, developing and recommending health promotion strategies and programs to meet the standards and requirements of the Ontario Public Health Standards (OPHS): Requirements for Programs, Services and Accountability (Standards) and applicable legislation and guidelines; and is responsible for enforcing activities under the Health Protection and Promotion Act through research, training and education with various internal and external stakeholders.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Researches, develops, monitors and evaluates health education and promotion programs under the Health Protection and Promotion Act and Ontario Public Health Standards. Identifies, develops and recommends strategies to meet health promotion needs of the Branch and the Corporation, as appropriate. Evaluates health promotion initiatives of public health programs and makes evidence informed recommendations for revisions, as required. Enforces Provincial statutory and regulatory standards; assists Public Health Inspectors, as required. Prepares and reviews HPPA Orders and summonses and information under the Provincial Offences Act and appears before the Justice of the Peace, as assigned. Identifies internal and external stakeholder relations ( coalitions, task forces, NGO’s) to ensure the development, implementation and evaluation of health promotion strategies. Responds to program specific inquiries, phone calls, e-mails and in-person drop-ins from internal and external customers. Supports the divisional core competencies for Senior Public Health Inspectors through on-going learning and development activities.


QUALIFICATIONS

Successful completion of a University Degree in Environmental Health and successful completion of additional courses/certificates related to the development, delivery and evaluation of educational programs or approved equivalent combination of education and experience. Certification as a Certified Public Health Inspector Thorough knowledge of the Health Protection and Promotion Act, adult education and health promotion theories. A valid Ontario driver’s licence and a reliable vehicle for use on corporate business. Knowledge and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including communication, teamwork and collaboration, and personal ownership.
