Arup is looking for a leader with a strong background in the Science buildings sector to join our team in Canada. This individual can reside in any of our Canadian offices: Toronto, Montreal or Calgary. We are looking for a candidate who can provide technical expertise, business development, and client relationship management to reinforce this established business and to unlock broader Science based opportunities.


Our ideal candidate will provide strong leadership, management, and technical skills relevant to the Science business. Along with this, they will play a meaningful role in the future growth and development of the life science market in Canada and more widely across the Americas region. As part of the senior leadership team, this individual will contribute to the overall management of our members in Canada.



Responsibilities:


• Maintain regular contact with existing key client/partners and proactively develop new relationships. Handle these relationships by Sharing information, obtaining feedback, understanding their needs, managing expectations, and seeking out new opportunities.
• Actively network, bringing in people, opportunities, and activities to unlock projects and build new partnerships.
• Represent Arup at the highest levels in Canada and beyond, promoting Arup Science expertise and ensuring we are seen as thought leaders, innovators, and a partner of choice in the science and research marketplace.
• Develop and implement of a science business strategy; ensuring this strategy aligns with the overarching Arup regional and Global business strategies.
• Setting and meeting agreed financial performance metrics
• Promote an environment for the firm that provides learning from challenges and successes. 
• Construct tactical recommendations, decisions, and systems improvements that enhance the performance of the team. 
• Act as a liaison for project details to project clients, stakeholders and partners
• Manage project meetings with all involved with the projects; including but not limited to stakeholders, Arup leadership, clients and partners.
• Predict and plan for all future resources needed to complete projects and bring the ability to be held accountable for financial performance. Negotiate contracts and conditions of engagement for Arup services to minimize risk and maximize the value that the firm can deliver.

Qualifications:


• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering; Mechanical Engineering degree preferred.
• 15+ years’ experience in the built environment.
• 10+ years experience in project delivery in the Science sector such as laboratories, R&D facilities, pharma, etc.
• Professional Engineering license in Canada.
• Experience in management and business development, with exceptional team leadership..
• Demonstrated strong commercial savvy and financial skills.
• Demonstrated communication, negotiation, influencing, and presentation skills.
• Experience in the application of Canadian Building Codes and Standards.

Toronto Hiring Range - The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in Toronto is $175,000 to $225,000 per year. Benefits are not included in the base salary. Please note hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of Toronto will differ.

Arup cherche un-e directeur-trice chevronné-e pour son secteur des bâtiments scientifiques au Canada. Le candidat apportera son expertise technique et assurera le développement des affaires et la gestion des relations-clients dans un objectif d’élargir ce marché en pleine croissance. 

Dans le cadre de ses fonctions, le candidat retenu sera notamment chargé de diriger, d’encadrer et de conseiller sur le plan technique le secteur de la science. En outre, il contribuera largement à l’essor du secteur des sciences de la vie au Canada et dans l’ensemble de la région des Amériques. En tant que membre de l’équipe de la haute direction, il prendra également part à la gestion de l’équipe au Canada.


Responsabilités

• Maintenir des rapports continus avec les clients et les partenaires actuels et développer de nouvelles relations de manière proactive, notamment en échangeant de l’information, en cernant les besoins, en gérant les attentes et en recherchant activement de nouvelles opportunités; 
• Participer assidûment à des activités de réseautage, organiser des événements et susciter des rencontres menant à d’éventuels mandats et partenariats;
• Représenter Arup sur l’échiquier canadien et mondial en faisant valoir son expertise scientifique et son positionnement de chef de file éclairé, novateur et prisé sur les marchés de la science et de la recherche; 
• Élaborer et mettre en œuvre une stratégie d’affaires pour le secteur de la science en veillant à son harmonisation avec les stratégies régionales et globales d’Arup; 
• Fixer et atteindre les paramètres de performance financière convenus; 
• Promouvoir, au sein de l’organisation, un environnement favorisant l’apprentissage à partir des réussites et des défis; 
• Formuler des recommandations stratégiques, prendre des décisions éclairées et améliorer les systèmes afin d’accroître le rendement de l’équipe; 
• Assurer la liaison avec les clients, les partenaires et les parties prenantes en ce qui concerne les projets; 
• Organiser les réunions pertinentes avec l’ensemble des participants aux projets, notamment les parties prenantes, les membres de la direction d’Arup, les clients et les partenaires; 
• Prévoir et planifier l’ensemble des ressources nécessaires à la réalisation des projets et rendre compte de la performance financière de l’équipe; 
• Négocier les différents contrats et les conditions d’embauche visant les services d’Arup, en veillant à minimiser les risques et à accroître la valeur de notre offre.

Qualifications


• Baccalauréat en génie, de préférence en génie mécanique; 
• Au moins 15 ans d’expérience au sein de l’environnement bâti;
• Au moins 10 ans d’expérience dans la livraison de projets pour le secteur de la science, notamment pour des laboratoires, des compagnies pharmaceutiques ou de recherche et développement; 
• Titre d’ingénieur reconnu au Canada; 
• Vaste expérience en gestion et en développement des affaires, doublée de solides compétences en gestion d’équipes; 
• Sens aigu des affaires et des finances; 
• Fortes aptitudes à communiquer, à négocier, à influencer et à présenter de manière convaincante; 
• Expérience dans l’application des normes et des codes canadiens du bâtiment et de la construction.
