Our Team: Treasury and Investing Services

The department within the division strives to ensure effective management and sound investment strategies of the University’s capital assets. The department is responsible for cash management, banking relationship and account management, merchant account setup and management, endowment management and reporting, investment management and reporting, and debt management and reporting. We support the University by managing its finances in an efficient, innovative and professional manner. We are dedicated to providing leadership, information, training, support and advice.

The Opportunity

The Treasury and Investing Services department within Financial Services is looking for a Senior Treasury Analyst to provide treasury operations and administration services related to banking, merchant accounts and cash management; process payments; and provide analytical and administrative support related to long-term investments.

Process, monitor and investigate outbound payments made via cheque and electronic payment methods to ensure they are accurately processed, recorded and updated in the Financial Information System (FIS), reports and the General Ledger (GL).  Provides analytical support for the administration of the operating funds, endowment and other trust portfolios, and prepares and maintains complex analysis and financial models, with the ability to summarize key points and financial data. Prepare reporting and analysis as related to bank account fees, merchant account fees and letters of credit. Perform liquidity analysis and forecasting on accounts held.  Assist in the preparation of quarterly and year-end financial statements, schedules, notes and associated working papers.
Provide support to the Treasury & Investing Services (TIS) management team on analytical, administrative and reporting activities related to treasury and investments, and assists with continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

Provide treasury operations and administration services serving as a point of contact for bank and merchant account inquiries and all requests from other financial services units and university-wide departments, including providing deposit confirmations, administering petty cash and merchant accounts, investigating and resolving variances and discrepancies. Process, monitor and investigate outbound electronic payments including preparing bill payments, international wires and local payments, as well as coordinating approval and release on the banking platforms and monitoring for fraud. Update the daily cash forecast and liquidity tracking spreadsheet, including reflecting transfers between accounts in the FIS and GL.  Provide analytical and administrative support for the long-term investments (endowment and other funds held in trust), such as assisting the supervisor with administration of the endowment fund, including record keeping, system updates and associated journal entries. Provide administrative and analytical support to the TIS management team on treasury and investing activities by preparing reports, schedules, supporting documents, analysis of accounts and bank confirmations.

Qualifications

Completion of a post-secondary degree in Business Administration, Business Management, Commerce and/or Finance program. Enrolment in the CFA, CTP or other professional designation or certification program is required.  A minimum of three (3) years of previous business experience, preferably in a university setting, in treasury, cash management, account analysis and reconciliation, investment management, payment processing and with experience working within banking platforms and financial systems.Knowledge of the financial accounting cycle, treasury and banking related arrangements, policies, procedures and business processesFamiliarity working with various treasury management agreementsKnowledge of financial methodologies, principles and practices Strong investigative, analytical, problem solving and critical thinking skills required to resolve financial management inquiries and problems and to evaluate, analyze and interpret complex data Excellent attention to detail Ability to manage competing priorities, and meet strict deadlines Strong (oral/written) communication and interpersonal skills  Strong interpersonal relationship skills and demonstrated sensitivity, tact and diplomacy to work with a variety of stakeholders Self-starter, with a demonstrated ability to work independently and proactively resolve issues with minimum supervision Proficiency using Microsoft Office products, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
