We are seeking a Project (Electrical) Engineer to join our Instrument Development Team developing the next generations of world class IDEXX Water diagnostic instrumentation. The successful candidate will have a background in electrical systems design and development for embedded systems.

As a Project (Electrical) Engineer at the IDEXX Water Teta Business Unit, you will be involved in developing new products and instrument solutions to monitor various biological and chemical parameters in potable and waste water applications. Our instruments utilize a variety of electrical and optical systems for function and for analytical results, requiring key assessment of requirements to intended function. You will develop design solutions that deliver high accuracy and precision and are cost effective, reliable, long-term manufacturable and serviceable, while maintaining ease of use. You will be involved in production engineering support to perform root cause analysis of products that do not meet quality requirements and participate in engineering changes to improve quality or manufacturing processes. You will also be involved in customer support activities related to instrumentation which can include installation and validation of systems and troubleshooting.

The Role’s Responsibilities Include but Not Limited To

Be a key contributor to new product development teams providing electrical support on future platform developments from concept feasibility through prototype evaluation and production release.

Provide manufacturing support through troubleshooting and root cause investigation of hardware and system related problems and propose design change solutions. Specify, implement, and test modifications to existing hardware systems.

Analyze, develop specifications, design, review, fabricate and test variety of electrical systems.

Specify, test and implement modifications to existing systems. Participate in product validation.

Develop system design requirements for instrumentation products. Contribute as part of cross-functional teams to develop new product features and solutions.

Account for margin for failure in designs, building extra leeway into products so they continue to function despite potential problems.

Design and develop equipment, methods and protocols necessary to design, evaluate and verify diagnostic instrumentation products.

Develop/recommend appropriate facilities, suppliers, components, equipment, tools and resources necessary to complete design, fabrication, implementation and testing of electrical systems.

Develop personal engineering skill set by learning from experienced, and cross-functional peers.

Supports engineering functional excellence objectives.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications are required to be initially considered for this position.
Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering, or closely aligned degree

3-5 years of experience in hardware development engineering.

Experience with circuit board design and prototyping.

Experience with PCB circuit design using KiCAD, Cadence or equivalent.

Experience using lab equipment such as Digital Multi Meters, oscilloscopes, logic analyzer and/or protocol analyzers, and function generators.

Experienced in developing product platforms from concept to production release.

First-rate problem-solving skills.

Ability to work well in a cross-site, cross-functional team environment.

Excellent written, presentation and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with board design (> 100 MHz) with one or more of the following:

Schematic entry

Debugging at the component and system level

Running root cause analysis

Implementing corrective action

Familiar with common communication protocols such as I2C, PCIe, USB, Ethernet.

Working knowledge of C, C++, Python code.

Experienced using Microchip MPLAB IDE programming environments

Analog and/or digital design knowledge/experience.

Soldering skills for SMD components is desirable.

Experience with product testing for DoC, FCC compliance

Knowledge of optics and opto-mechanical system design.

Good understanding of chemistry and biological sciences.

Supply chain development using a hybrid selection of parts vendors to meet price constraints.

Ability to effectively communicate with non-technical team members to provide feedback on user/marketing requirements
