Health and Safety Coordinator

Position Summary:
This role will encompass functions related to safety and the environment. Working closely with hourly and salaried employees as well as treating practitioners, and the Worker’s Compensation Board to manage claims, this role will coordinate the return-to-work process, as well as identify opportunities for rehabilitation, legislative compliance, cost recovery, and injury prevention.
Position Responsibilities may include, but not limited to:
Work with the Management Team and hourly employees to promote a positive safety cultureBe the primary point of contact for WCB/WSIB matters as they relate to the Worker, Employer and Worker’s Compensation BoardCoordinate with third party consultants to collaboratively manage claimsComplete monthly reports relating to injury frequency, severity, tracking, costs and trend analysis; present monthly report to managementKeep accurate and up to date filesBe involved in the Return-to-Work coordination along with Accommodation Plans for all work-related and non-work-related disability claimsEnsure maintenance and improvement of the Return-to-Work Program in accordance with the Workplace Safety and Prevention Services modelMonitor and review workplace accommodations and return to work programsEnsure that all governmental legislation is being followed at all timeMaintain legislative compliance for OHS, WSIA, and privacy legislationAssist in conducting inspections of the workplace ensuring safety standards are met and being enforced consistently Support planning projects aimed at integrating health and safety activities into the company’s production effortsProvide support in addressing non-compliance offensesEnsure timely investigation and thorough reporting of health and safety incidents and hazard assessmentsParticipate in the monthly Joint Health & Safety CommitteeParticipate in monthly Workplace Inspections and provide corresponding report to managementReview job site safety compliance inspections including hazard analysis, risk assessments, safe work procedures; identify and provide risk assessment recommendationsCoordinate meeting between employee & operations following a work place injury/incidentResearch, plan, organize and conduct training programs/seminarsAdvise on improvements in tracking and reporting proceduresCoordination of Attendance Management ProgramEnvironmental / Sustainability
As a subject matter expert, provide leadership and guidance in Environmental mattersProvide assistance to the Distribution Centre to achieve and maintain ISO 14001 certificationIdentify potential sustainability projectsParticipate as a member in Environmental / Sustainability teamPeriodically act as a team leader to special task forces or teamsRequired Skills and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) ideally in Health & Safety or Environmental related disciplineIntegrative thinker and excellent problem-solving skillsStrong work ethic, ability to multi-task in a high-pressure work environmentAttention to detail, organization skillsHigh initiative, self-motivation, self-starter, and strong, interactive team playerExcellent time management skills, ability to manage multiple prioritiesStrong communication skills (Written/Verbal) with excellent presentation skillsBe competent in Microsoft Outlook, Work, Excel, Power PointIn-depth working knowledge of OHS, WSIB, WSIA, privacy, and Human Rights LegislationPreferred Skills and Experience:
Prefer two to three years’ experience in abilities management with focus on Health & SafetyFamiliarity with working within a unionized environment an assetPhysical Demands and Work Environment:
