As an Environmental Researcher, you will support environmental strategy, watershed planning and environmental program implementation. You will conduct research to support these programs, providing jurisdictional scans and benchmarking, internal and external assessments, data evaluation, interpretation, and reporting services. You will support the Water Security portfolio (including drought resilience and response, source water protection, stormwater management, and water efficiency planning) and the environmental policy portfolio (including river valley planning and ecological planning). You may also support the development and delivery of additional environmental programs. Primary duties include: 

Research strategic initiatives, emerging policies, and current practices in other jurisdictions and industries to collect and monitor outcomes, strategies, actions and messaging in comparable organizations. Collect, evaluate and interpret data, presenting findings through written reports, presentations or e-mail summaries. Conduct internal assessments and updates of City data, practices and processes to advance policy and project opportunities. Support development of targets and key performance indicators, assessing the success of programs and policies against these metrics and tracking progress on project and program implementation. Support staff working on environmental programs and projects by assisting with scheduling, content preparation, minutes, and summary reports for working groups, workshops and meetings.  Respond to customer inquiries related to program research and implementation. Access and collate programs and services information to address customer concerns. Support engagement activities for internal and external interested parties and represent Climate and Environment at education and outreach events. Qualifications  A completed 2-year diploma in Water Management, Water Resources, Environmental Management, Environmental Studies, or a related field and at least 1 year of relevant experience; OR A degree in Water Management, Water Resources, Environmental Management, Environmental Studies, or a related field and less than 1 year of relevant experience.  Must be able to use a variety of research techniques to understand and communicate technical information in a variety of formats, including reports, presentations, and requests from the general public.  Experience in data analysis, interpretation, evaluation, and communication will be considered an asset.  The successful candidate will be able to work independently, displaying accuracy and initiative while managing multiple priorities.
