The Care Company is looking for awesome, self-driven nurses (RPN or RN) to assist us with paediatric school support throughout the DURHAM region (Pickering, Ajax, Whitby, Oshawa, and Bowmanville), working with children between the ages of 3 years old-20 years old with all daily activities in the school setting. You will be a part of a team that is helping a child attend school safely

Shifts

  • we are looking for someone who can commit to an ongoing, consistent, weekly schedule. Consistency of care is very important for these clients.
  • School Support shifts will be Monday-Friday, are typically 7-9 hours, usually from 7am-4pm with some exceptions based on the clients needs
  • Due to the nature of these clients care needs, school support nurses are expected to be available for all school days and take vacation when the child is on scheduled calendar breaks.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to providing personal care and help clients with their ADLs (hygiene assistance, bathing, and medications administration) that is within the scope of practice for a Registered Nurse or Registered Practical Nurse.
  • Provide exceptional patient care as outlined in their care plans, supporting patients with all applicable medical needs
  • Meets the safety needs of the client and uses equipment safely and properly
  • Assists clients with transfers, ambulation, and exercises as required
  • Observe the patients' medical health as well as their physical and mental responses
  • Functions within the limits of own experience and knowledge, and practices safely and competently within the job description
  • Completes records and documentation accurately and thoroughly according to Company policy

Requirements

Must have Paediatric experience with any of the following interventions:

  • Tracheostomy suctioning
  • Ventilators
  • G and J tube feeding
  • Bi-pap or C-pap
  • Cough assist
  • Oxygenation
  • Seizure monitoring

Other requirements include:

  • An asset if you own vehicle and have a valid driver's licence (not required)
  • we will be providing support to a number of schools across the the Durham region, flexibility for commuting an asset
  • consistent, on-going, weekly availability (must be able to commit to the same shift, same day, each week, every week).
  • Negative TB Test completed within the last year
  • CNO Registration and nursing Certificate
  • COVID Vaccination Receipts subject to an exemption pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code
  • Valid Criminal Record Check - must be completed within the last year.
  • Valid CPR/First Aid certification
  • Valid WHMIS2015 certification from the last year
  • Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing in English
  • Ability to identify and report client care concerns to Care Coordinators when needed.
