City Experiences is seeking a Kitchen Steward for our City Cruises operation in Gananoque.

*Please note, this is a seasonal/contract position*

About the Opportunity:

The Kitchen Steward prepares menu items for all vessels and assists with general kitchen operations including receiving and storing provisions. The successful candidate is hospitable and cordial to coworkers and guests and acts safely and responsibly. The Kitchen Steward will enable professional and efficient kitchen operations, be favorably viewed by supervisors and peers, and be swift and effective in the execution of assigned duties.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Provide exceptional hospitality to coworkers and guests as prescribed in our RESPECT Service System. Responsible for the daily and timely distribution of all canteen food & beverage menu items to each tour vessel. Knowledgeable of vessel schedule and appropriate menu offerings. Monitor par-levels for all daily made fresh menu items, ensuring appropriate stock levels are made and maintained. Assist in the receiving of and organization of stock while ensuring all food handling safety principles are followed. Including but not limited to temperature checks of both frozen product and equipment. Operate dish machine; ensuring all dishes are cleaned, organized, and stored appropriately. Assist kitchen team by ensuring dishwasher is in proper working order, including chemical refilling, temperature checks and daily cleaning. Stock supplies such as food and utensils in serving stations, cupboards, refrigerators, and buffets or food stations. Set up, stock, maintain sanitary workstations and complete corresponding checklists. Monitor stock levels for required menu ingredients, reporting to Manager on Duty when last stock is getting low. May be responsible for assisting kitchen team with daily line preparatory items, including but not limited to chopping vegetables, butchering meat, or preparing sauces. Assist in routine cleaning of kitchen, including daily cleaning of equipment, preparation stations, stock rooms, staff areas, staff washrooms and mopping floors. Maintain safety and cleanliness of kitchen and service areas: sweep & scrub floors, clean garbage cans, sort and remove trash. Receive and store food and supplies using proper food handling techniques including stock rotation and monitoring temperatures of perishable products. Set up and stock stations with all necessary supplies. Prepare food for service (, chopping vegetables, butchering meat, or preparing sauces) as directed by Manager on duty. Maintain safety and cleanliness of kitchen and service areas; sweep and scrub floors, clean garbage cans with water, sort and remove trash – placing it in designated pickup areas. Assist with food deliveries for catering operations. Be prepared to begin work at scheduled time. Maintain uniform and personal grooming in compliance with appearance standards. Any other duties as assigned by department supervisor or manager on duty.

Requirements & Qualifications:

Previous kitchen experience preferred. Food Handlers Certification. Energetic and enthusiastic personality is essential. Will be closely supervised; must be able to take direction. Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of another language in addition to English is an asset. Must possess a service orientation – actively looking for ways to help others. Will work for extended periods without sitting. The nature of the work may be strenuous, and the work environment may be warm. Will be required to be available for work on all major holidays and weekends. Ability to reach, bend, stoop, wipe, push, pull, move or lift up to 35 pounds (16 kilograms). Valid G1 License required. If required, wear assigned Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) ( non-slip shoes, gloves, weather appropriate dress attire, sun protection).
