Position Overview

With collaboration and direction from the Manager, Talent and Business Partners, the Talent Acquisition Specialist will be a trusted partner to hiring managers at all levels of the organization in delivering full cycle talent acquisition activities, identifying, attracting, and engaging with candidates, and workforce planning to ensure talent needs are attained to meet business objectives. Acting as a company ambassador, this position will add strategic value to the business and support the development and execution of Talent Acquisition projects. 

This position will be based in either Calgary, Alberta or Yellowknife, NT. The candidate must be comfortable with travel for career fairs, particularly to smaller Northern communities and to our mine site, which is in the Northwest Territories.  Typical site visits can be 4 to 7 days in length, during site visits all employees will need to adhere to the site-specific policies.  With that in mind, a pre-employment A&D screening, medical screening and background check is a requirement of employment.

This is a 15-month term position, starting from August 15, 2024 to November 14, 2025.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

• Partnering with hiring teams to carry out the full cycle recruitment process – hiring intake, screening resumes, strategic sourcing, interviewing, negotiating and extending offers for both operational and corporate teams
• Creating postings, interview guides, understanding competencies and aligning with strategic values
• Establishing strong internal relationships with Business Unit leaders (both remote at site and in the Calgary head office)
• Developing a thorough understanding of the business, client hiring needs, specific talent pools, the market for these roles, and creating a strategic recruitment plan to match
• Sourcing using LinkedIn recruiter seat, Indeed resume search, career fairs and hiring events, personal networks, cold-calling, creating a hiring pipeline for roles hired frequently, and administrating internal referral programs
• Managing external vendor relationships such as pre-employment testing through Driver Check, Sterling Backcheck, Certn, third party recruitment agencies and talent scouts
• Collaborating with the Training team, HR Coordinator and Travel team on onboarding and orientation of new employees
• Working closely with HRBPs, Business Unit leaders, HR Coordinator, Training and the Northern Talent Coordinator to create and implement Talent Acquisition projects and strategies; including but not limited to; Northern Recruitment strategy to support Northern Indigenous recruitment and IBA requirements; Apprenticeship Program; participation on relevant committees and facilitating surveys
• Establishing a positive candidate experience throughout the recruitment process
• Ensuring recruitment processes, tools and systems support efficient talent acquisition processes and recruitment best practices
• Establishing strong working relationships with key stakeholders in the NWT including Northern Aboriginal groups and IBA partners
• Coordinate career fairs and recruitment events
• Understanding of relevant legislation and Collective Agreements
• Keeps up to date on current industry trends, hiring activities and recruitment best practices
• Willingness to support ADHOC projects within the HR team as required.

Education/Experience

• Completed post-secondary education, preferably in a related field such as Human Resources Management, business management/administration OR a combination of equivalent professional experience and training; 
• Chartered Professional in Human Resources designation and/or Registered Professional Recruiter are considered strong assets for this role;
• 5+ years of direct recruitment experience for hourly and salaried positions within mining or similar resource based industries;
• Experience with Northern Indigenous recruitment;
• Experience in recruiting for trades/union positions for camps or remote worksites;
• Experience with talent acquisition strategies, programs, vendors and tools;
• Experience working in a unionized environment is considered an asset;
• Experience with direct sourcing is considered an asset;
• Solid understanding of federal, provincial and territorial employment laws as it relates to talent acquisition, HR trends, issues, and best practices;
• Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and meet time demands of a dynamic business environment;
• Self-motivated, action-oriented with ability to work collaboratively in a team environment;
• Deadline driven, self-directed and enjoy delivering results;
• Customer service mindset in providing an exceptional candidate experience;
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills;
• Adaptable to work with ambiguity and uncertainty.

The Company provides travel to and from the Ekati mine site out of Calgary, Yellowknife, and other northern fly points.
