Jr. Indirect Tax Analyst

As a Junior Indirect Tax Analyst, you will be part of a team responsible for Indirect Tax compliance. Using your keen willingness to learn and significant prioritization skills, you will work with other members of the Indirect Tax Team to ensure Irving Oil is compliant with its Indirect Tax obligations in each of the jurisdictions it operates in. Your goal will be to file timely, accurate returns as well as interact with jurisdictional tax authorities to resolve queries on indirect tax compliance issues. Your success in this position will be knowing how to manage your time effectively while positively interacting with customers, team members and other members of the company to meet company goals and objectives.

Your Responsibilities:
Tax License Management (manage license database)
Managing Native Status Cards database
Audit support (gathering backup documents, such as emails, invoices. Etc.)
Support Tax Payment Remittances as required.
Supporting the issuance and collection of exemption certificates from customers and to vendors
Month End Reporting to prepare for the tax return cycle, running trial balances, etc.
Other support duties as required such as sorting and distributing mail for tax department for example.
Research and provide responses to queries from other parts of the company and legislative jurisdictions.
Assist with indirect tax assessment rebuttal initiatives and related analysis and investigation.
Support other indirect tax compliance projects and work with the business on other projects or new requests or developments.
Preparation of basic indirect tax returns as required.
Other duties as assigned by the manager.

Excellent time management skills and able to meet multiple deadlines.
Good analytical skills.
Your Experience:
Post-secondary training in business or accounting.
1-3 years of experience in tax or finance/accounting. If you have strong basic skills in finance and accounting along with an interest in tax, we will train you on the tax portion of this role.
Strong Excel skills; VLOOKUPS, pivot tables, formulas, etc.
Experience using financial reporting systems.
