The Faculty of Education has an opening for a sessional instructor in the Fall 2024 term of the recently launched Literacy, Language, and Learning Graduate Diploma (LLLGD) program for the following online course:

LLL 513 - Leadership in Literacy, Language, and Learning (1 section, 3 credits)

Candidates must demonstrate commitment to teaching, learning and student success through scholarship and institutional service. Successful candidates will participate in a wide range of activities outside the classroom, including student support; institutional, faculty and departmental committee meetings and other initiatives; and professional activities in keeping with their disciplines in and outside the institution.

Required Qualifications:

Doctorate in a relevant area from an appropriately accredited institution. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered for teaching in Graduate Diploma programs.

Experience in a leadership position in K-12 contexts, particularly in implementing school or district-wide literacy and language programs. Evidence of current knowledge and experience with appropriate teaching methodology in the Kindergarten to Grade 12 (K-12) education system, particularly in areas of literacy and language learning. Knowledge of the BC Curriculum. Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills. Willingness and ability to function in a team setting; responsive to diverse cultural and academic backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications:

The LLLGD program attracts primarily existing educators, eligibility for a British Columbia Teaching Certificate or equivalent is preferred. Familiarity with current ministry literacy priorities and initiatives. Experience with online teaching and course management; adult learners and/or teaching in post-secondary contexts. Familiarity with Vancouver Island University Faculty of Education graduate programs. Knowledge of Indigenous Principles of teaching and learning.
