CVIMS offers services for newcomers, including settlement and integration counselling, translation and interpretation, English classes, mentoring, volunteer matching, and community connections. **Job Summary**:
Working as part of a team, the main priorities of the PBLA/Head Instructor are to provide support, guidance and direction to the Instructors of the Language Training component (LINC) of the IRCC funded Settlement Program supporting Portfolio-Based Language Assessment (PBLA). This position also requires the incumbent to deliver LINC instruction aligned to the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) standards to language learners.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- In collaboration with the LINC Team Lead, direct and coordinate the core Language Training component of the Settlement and Integration Services program
- Ensure that all LINC program staff receive an appropriate orientation to the program, and have ongoing support and information to assist them in doing their jobs
- Provide guidance to other LINC Instructors with curriculum development, resources and teaching methodologies, professional development, portfolio-based learning assessment (PBLA) and other programming changes required by contractual arrangements for language training services
- Deliver workshops to colleagues related to PBLA implementation in their own classroom as and when required
- Schedule Instructor-Student portfolio reviews and support Instructors with conducting those reviews
- Facilitate small group, informal discussions among instructors. Shares practices and strategizes solutions to issues raised
- Meet one-on-one with teachers to discuss PBLA-related topics (includes CLB, Task-based Instruction and Task-based Assessment) strategies/activities.
- Facilitate the PBLA orientation to new students as part of the intake process
- Conduct classroom observations and evaluate work of teaching staff; coach and mentor staff as appropriate in order to improve performance and strengthen teaching skills
- In partnership with Senior Management, complete annual classroom performance reviews with each staff member
- Team-teach and carry out demonstration lessons where necessary
- Working with the LINC Team Lead, prepare and submit program statistics and reports and other tasks as required by the contract funder
- Liaise with management team to ensure the effective and efficient relationships across agency programs
- Maintain a list of substitute instructors and arrange as necessary
- When required, act as substitute Instructor
- Participate in training opportunities to remain current on issues impacting language training for immigrant and refugee newcomer populations
- Report to the LINC Team Lead issues affecting the program, staff or quality of service delivery
- Ensure strict adherence to privacy legislation and all other professional codes of conduct
- Perform other related duties as requested by as requested by the Language Team Lead and Director of Client Services
- Participate in meetings with other Team Leads as necessary
- Act as an alternate for LINC Team Lead in the absence

**QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS**:

- Minimum of five years demonstrated successful experience in ESL instruction for adult learners, and minimum of three years supervision of professional ESL teaching staff, preferably in a settlement language-based ESL program (Equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered)
- Undergraduate degree in a related discipline (e.g., applied linguistics, English); Graduate degree preferred
- Must have an excellent working knowledge of language acquisition, Canadian Language Benchmarks, and immigrant settlement issues
- Extensive knowledge and experience in teaching, program logistics and curriculum planning
- TESL Certification from an accredited institution recognized by TESL Canada or equivalent
- Completion of PBLA (Portfolio Based Language Assessment) training with a minimum of 3 years using PBLA in the classroom
- In depth understanding of and experience using Canadian Language Benchmarks and the LINC Curriculum Guidelines
- Experience integrating technology and online resources in lesson delivery; ability to adapt teaching methodology to the needs/skill levels of individual learners
- Completion of Avenue Stage 2 training; Experience providing online training using an Online Learning Management System such as Moodle
- Excellent English communication and interpersonal skills; excellent organizational and time management skills
