Your Opportunity:

Completion of a bachelor's degree in Addictions or a combination of a bachelor's degree in a related field with course work in addictions. A related degree combined with a diploma related to addictions, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, may be considered. Individuals eligible for registration under the Health Professions Act must maintain active registration. Individuals may require authorization/permission under regulation to perform restricted psychosocial interventions and/or restricted activities.This position reports to the Site Health Services Manager at the Calgary Correctional Centre and Calgary Young Offenders Centre and Female Annex, the successful individual functions as an Addictions Counsellor in the context of a multidisciplinary team located within the correctional facilities. The provision of health services within the facilities encompasses the adult and youth, male and female offender population. The Corrections Addictions Counsellor collaborates as a member of a multi-disciplinary health services team and within the correctional services team. This position involves working with offenders who present criminal and/or suicidal tendencies and potential for violent and aggressive behaviours. The Corrections Addictions Counsellor addresses the needs of offenders with highly acute, highly chronic, and highly complex problems.

Description:

As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will provide quality, client focused, recovery based and culturally appropriate assessment, treatment, case management, crisis intervention, education and referral services for clients and their families; as well as community stabilization services. You will develop and implement treatment plans and provide a range of interventions which offer least intrusive and most appropriate services to clients and their families. You will also monitor and evaluate client progress and achievement of recovery goals and adapt treatment as needed. As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will depend on your excellent relationship building skills with clients, families, government staff and colleagues.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Addictions or a combination of a bachelor's degree in a related field with course work in addictions. A related degree combined with a diploma related to addictions, or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Individuals eligible for registration under the Health Professions Act (Alberta) must maintain active registration. Individuals may require authorization/permission under regulation to perform restricted psychosocial interventions and/or restricted activities.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Ability to perform to the physical expectations of the position.

Preferred Qualifications:

The provision of health services within the facility encompasses an adult male and female offender population as well as youth offenders. The position involves working with offenders who present with criminal tendencies and potential toward violent and aggressive behaviours. As such, experience with provision of care within a correctional and/or a forensic population is preferred.
