We are on an exciting path to accelerate Sun Life Canada’s wealth and investment capabilities through new offerings, innovative solutions, personalized experiences and digitized processes.

Reporting to the VP, Client Journeys and Agile Excellence Domain, the AVP (Assistant Vice-President), Retail Wealth and Investments Technology will closely partner with the Retail Wealth and Sun Life Global Investments businesses to support the vision of delivering seamless digital experiences and solutions across Sun Life Canada’s Retail Advice & Solutions (RAS) and Sun Life Global Investments (SLGI) business units.

What do you need?

15 or more years experience in increasingly senior and strategic technology portfolio leadership roles Senior level leadership of Retail Wealth, Investments and/or Asset Management technology platform integrations and strategies Senior level leadership of multiple technology integration teams across journeys, technical platforms, and hubs in a scaled Agile environment. Proven ability to navigate the complexities of a large matrix organization. Bachelor's degree in Computer Sciences or equivalent. MBA would be an asset

Competencies:

Experience leading and overseeing wealth / investment technology platforms and strategies. Experience creating and/or governing a shared platform that spans multiple business units. Proven experience leading successful delivery teams using modern development practices. Ability to understand and integrate with the organization’s overall data architecture and data integration solutions. Proven ability using agile software development methodologies, processes, ceremonies, and tools. Proven experience at a senior leadership level with scaled Agile delivery (SAFe, or other scaled Agile frameworks) Experience leading through organizational transformations and supporting employees in the required change management processes. Impactful strategic, technology and communication skills to interact with and influence all levels of the organization, including senior management and executives. A leader that communicates with an authentic style that breaks down silos and encourages open communication across IT and the Business. Highly credible leader that has demonstrated superior management skills; attracts and retains strong technology professionals by developing engaged, cohesive teams. Experience leading large virtual teams spanning multiple global locations. Ability to design and explain complex scenarios with simplicity, to aid in understanding for the specific audience. Demonstrated experience with organizing and overseeing multiple initiatives simultaneously, in a high-pressure environment. Test and learn, experimentation mindset to enable teams to keep moving forward.

What will you do?

Deliver an orchestrated client and advisor lifecycle across the Retail Wealth and SLGI product lines and channels, creating seamless and consistent experiences. Provide leadership and accountability across these digital journeys and platforms. Drive and execute multi-year technology strategies that (1) address client/advisor experience challenges, (2) enable One Sun opportunities across Sun Life Canada, and (3) accelerate Sun Life Canada’s wealth and investment growth ambitions. Oversee multiple Agile delivery squads that execute plans towards the north star vision. Understand the retail wealth and investment needs of Sun Life Canada and oversee the successful delivery of those technology capabilities. Lead the launch of the new securities platform for Sun Life Canada Securities Inc, strengthen the existing mutual fund dealer platform, and create a leading technology/data integration strategy for these businesses. Oversee the SLGI Advisor, Client and Institutional Investment journey and Investments platform, to enable SLGI to deliver leading retirement investment solutions across Canada

Accountabilities:

Serve as a trusted advisor to our RAS and SLGI business partners, demonstrating exceptional partnership and leadership skills that business and technology teams should emulate. Drive strategic alignment and shared goals through leadership and influencing across Retail Advice & Solutions, Sun Life Global Investments, Canadian Operations and Digital Business & Technology Solutions (DBTS) teams. Within each team, work closely with journey, platform and hubs to align strategies and successfully execute plans. Articulate the value, benefit, and trade-offs of digital and architectural investments, how they support the business strategy and how it integrates into the broader technology architecture. Work closely with DBTS leadership teams to transform legacy operating models and deliver business outcomes faster, particularly when integrating third party technology solutions. Lead and facilitate technology budgets, forecasts and strategic planning activities for RAS and SLGI. Continually seek opportunities to reduce Run expenses that can be reinvested in Grow/Transform activities that enable our businesses. Partners with RAS and SLGI Journey, Platform and APM/BPM leadership to ensure an integrated end-to-end view across people and technology supporting the relevant business unit. Develop and deliver technical strategies that support digitization and modernization at scale across Sun Life Canada’s business units, with supporting roadmaps. Leverage technical expertise to create seamless, holistic client and advisor experiences across all channels. Help create a unified vision of One Sun digital opportunities – common solutions, capabilities and programs that create optimal client and advisor outcomes across our Retail Wealth and SLGI businesses. Lead the launch of the new securities platform for Sun Life Canada Securities Inc (SLCSI). Successfully deliver plans to implement and integrate multiple vendor platforms (onboarding, compliance, portfolio management, etc) that can be scaled as the advisors migrate to SLCSI. Strengthen the existing mutual fund dealer platform and create a technology/data integration strategy across Retail Wealth. Lead technology oversight for SLGI’s critical journeys and platforms including quote, illustrations, portfolio management, client relationship management, data, website, etc. Evolve and execute the SLGI target state architecture. Ensure stability, disaster preparedness, security and currency of our Retail Wealth and Investment platforms.  Establish strategic vendor relationships and govern their delivery so that appropriate services are delivered and SLAs met. As necessary, lead technology vendor selection, contracting, negotiations etc. Provide day to day coaching, direction and leadership to journey/platforms and hubs/squads to create high-performing, engaged and inclusive teams. Support problem solving and ensure strong squad health. Attract strong, diverse and global talent with appropriate digital, data and technology skills. Leverage resources and expertise at Sun Life Global Solutions (SLGS). Build external partnerships to augment our staff and deliver capabilities that help SLF Canada achieve its purpose Set objectives and key results, effectively communicate them to teams, and drive accountability to successfully achieve them. Actively participate in and support Sun Life Canada’s digital transformation journey
