About this opportunity:

Reporting to the Manager, Downstream Category Management, this role is responsible for the end-to-end Category Management process of maintenance services category through closely working with Cenovus business partners including a) maintenance, b) operations, and c) engineering and various teams within the SCM department.

The primary purpose of this role includes development and execution of long-term strategic sourcing strategies in alignment with key business objectives and supporting SCM teams in contributing to Cenovus’s enterprise objectives.

This position will provide procurement expertise demonstrating extensive knowledge of maintenance services, supply chain sources, sourcing strategies, category sourcing process, business process/procedures, as well as mentoring other junior team members.

This position will be based in the Calgary office with business support visits to sites.

What you’ll do:

Implement procurement standard processes for sourcing activities, ensuring these practices are in accordance with COIMS, Cenovus’s procurement policy, procurement management system documents, and all relevant regulations

Develop and support the annual & long-term strategic planning and budgeting to secure supply of goods and services, across Canadian and US assets

Develop and maintain a network of collaborators at all assets and potentially enterprise level

Ensure Cenovus is conducting business with financially viable and technically qualified suppliers

Conduct efficient, effective and ethical sourcing and contracting of external goods and services

Leverage spend data, business requirements, external market data, and other vital information to develop category sourcing strategies

Conduct spend analytics and suppliers analysis within the defined category portfolio

Assess risks and lead the development of corporate category strategies in partnership with budget owners to achieve overall Cenovus objectives

Lead and handle all aspects of complex sourcing initiatives including RFx activities, development of negotiation strategies and recommendations to award

Prepare strategy and award recommendations and acquire appropriate financial and commitment authority approvals

Review, interpret, analyze, negotiate, and develop contracts and lead collaborators through the sourcing and negotiation process

Ensure all data, information, and records are developed accurately and are appropriately maintained & safeguarded

Lead post-award activities including effective contract performance & supplier relationship management

Lead day-to-day inquiries on contracts within assigned categories from Business Units, other teams within Cenovus and suppliers and expedite resolution e.g., invoice issues, rates update, contract amendment

Who you are:

Must be legally entitled to work in Canada

Undergrad degree in an Engineering, Technical, Business discipline or relevant field of study is considered an asset. Advanced degrees or professional certifications (i.e. SCMP, CPSM) are a plus.

Minimum 8-10 years of progressively responsible and related experience in a procurement environment (category management experience preferred)

Experience leading cross-functional teams through Category Management processes, negotiating large & complex commercial agreements, and handling critical suppliers

Strong technical, analytical, and critical thinking skills

Ability to collaborate and build strong working relationships with diverse partners to drive best value

Strong facilitation, communication, and negotiations skills

The following will be considered an asset:

Supply Chain Management Professional certification

Knowledge of maintenance and operation services and experience in handling categories in those areas; a background in oil and gas industry
